Materials Buyer – Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing

HORSCH believes that our employees are key to the success of our business Job Overview We are looking for a Materials Buyer to join our Purchasing team supporting the manufacturing of agricultural equipment. This position will be responsible for day-to-day PO administration, supplier communication, and material availability for assigned commodities, with the opportunity to grow into a strategic purchasing role. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of purchasing, materials, or supply chain experience, preferably within an OEM or manufacturing environment. This person should be a self-starter, organized, and willing to take ownership of supplier and material issues. SAP experience is preferred, and steel fabrication experience is a plus. Key Responsibilities : Create, maintain, and manage purchase orders for assigned commodities and suppliers. Review MRP requirements and place orders to support production demand. Maintain accurate pricing, quantities, delivery dates, lead times, and other purchasing information in SAP. Follow up with suppliers on order confirmations, past-due orders, shortages, and delivery issues. Work closely with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Logistics to ensure materials are available when needed. Maintain strong day-to-day relationships with assigned suppliers. Monitor supplier performance related to delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost. Identify potential material shortages and supply risks before they impact production. Assist with RFQs, quote comparisons, cost analysis, supplier negotiations, and sourcing activities. Support cost reduction, lead-time improvement, inventory reduction, and supplier improvement initiatives. Take on additional strategic sourcing and commodity responsibilities as experience and capabilities develop. Qualifications: 1–3 years of purchasing, materials, supply chain, or related manufacturing experience. Experience in an OEM or manufacturing environment preferred. SAP or similar ERP experience. Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills. Ability to manage multiple suppliers and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Self-starter who takes ownership in their work. Proficient with GOOGLE Workspace. Ability to understand basic drawings, BOMs, part numbers, and manufacturing requirements. Opportunity for Growth: This position is designed for someone who wants to grow within Purchasing. The initial focus will be on executing purchase orders, supporting production, and managing supplier follow-up. As experience is gained, the role will expand into supplier management, sourcing, negotiations, cost reduction, commodity strategy, and other strategic purchasing responsibilities.
