Senior Purchaser — Building Materials Park Ave Building Supplies | Brooklyn, NY Park Ave Building Supplies is seeking an experienced Senior Purchaser to lead purchasing for sheetrock, insulation, lumber, and metal framing products . We’re looking for someone who understands commodity markets, builds strong supplier relationships, and is excited about purchasing as a career. About the Role You will take ownership of purchasing across these core product categories, ensuring we have the right materials, at the right cost, when our customers need them. This role requires strong commercial judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to balance competitive pricing with inventory levels, availability, and cash flow. We’re also looking for someone proficient with AI who can turn that knowledge into practical improvements in our purchasing process. Key Responsibilities Manage purchasing for sheetrock, insulation, lumber, and metal framing products. Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors, and other supply partners. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, freight, rebates, and volume purchasing agreements. Monitor commodity pricing, market trends, lead times, and supply conditions to make informed buying decisions. Use sales history, inventory data, and input from sales and operations to forecast demand and plan purchases. Maintain appropriate inventory levels while reducing stockouts, excess inventory, and slow-moving products. Coordinate with sales, warehouse, and operations teams to support customer orders and upcoming projects. Track purchase orders, follow up on deliveries, and resolve pricing, quantity, and product discrepancies. Evaluate supplier performance based on cost, reliability, quality, and service. Incorporate AI tools into tasks such as quote comparisons, purchasing reports, demand analysis, and routine workflows, while verifying accuracy and protecting company information. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of purchasing experience , with demonstrated experience buying commodities or building materials. Strong knowledge of sheetrock, insulation, lumber, and/or metal framing products, with the ability to manage purchasing across all four categories. Experience navigating price fluctuations, negotiating with suppliers, and making sound inventory commitments. Practical proficiency with AI tools and the ability to explain how you have used them to improve efficiency or decision-making. Strong analytical skills and proficiency with spreadsheets, purchasing software, and inventory management systems. Excellent organization, follow-through, and communication skills. An ownership mindset: someone who takes initiative, anticipates problems, and follows through on solutions.
