Sierra Northern RailwayPOSITION SUMMARY: The Materials Specialist is responsible for overseeing the transportation, maintenance, and inventory of equipment and parts for multiple projects. This role ensures the timely acquisition of necessary parts and the efficient tracking and maintenance of equipment. The Materials Specialist will also handle scheduling and executing maintenance work and perform various tasks as needed in different weather conditions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Transportation and Logistics: · Coordinate the loading and unloading of equipment and materials. · Ensure safe and efficient transportation of equipment to various project sites. · Drive to multiple locations to pick up and deliver equipment as needed. Equipment and Maintenance Tracking: · Monitor and track the maintenance schedules of all equipment. · Schedule and execute regular and preventative maintenance work on equipment. · Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance history. Parts Acquisition and Inventory Management: · Source and acquire necessary parts for equipment maintenance and repair. · Manage inventory levels to ensure availability of parts and materials for multiple projects. · Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies. Equipment Tracking: · Implement and maintain systems to track equipment locations and statuses. · Ensure all equipment is properly always logged and accounted for. Scheduling and Maintenance Execution: · Develop and manage maintenance schedules to minimize downtime. · Coordinate with project managers and field staff to ensure timely maintenance and repairs. Basic Computer Skills: · Utilize Excel for inventory tracking and data analysis. · Use Word for documentation and reporting. · Communicate effectively using Outlook for emails and scheduling. Field Work: · Perform job duties in varying weather conditions, ensuring safety and efficiency. · Adapt to changing work environments and project requirements. Other Duties: · Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management. · Collaborate with other team members to support project goals and objectives. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING: · High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred. · Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. · Proven experience in materials management, equipment maintenance, and inventory control. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: · Strong organizational and time management skills. · Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team. · Excellent communication and people skills. · Physical ability to lift and move equipment and materials as needed. · Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and travel to various locations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: · Lift and carry heavy equipment, tools, and materials. · Stand, walk, and move around job sites for extended periods. · Bend, stoop, and kneel to access electrical components. · Climb ladders, scaffolding, or structures to work at height. · Utilize manual dexterity for handling small components and tools. · Work outdoors in various weather conditions. · Maintain focus on safety and enforce safety protocols. WORK ENVIRONMENT: · Dynamic settings such as construction sites, industrial facilities, and commercial buildings. · The role will involve both indoor and outdoor work, adherence to safety protocols, and travel to different job sites.
