Material Planner
Cummins Inc.We are looking for a talented Material Planner to join our Supply Chain Planning team at our Cummins Facility in Troy, MI . In This Role, You Will Make an Impact in the Following Ways: Material Planning & Availability: Ensure the right materials are available at the right time by balancing supply with production and operational demand, minimizing shortages and disruptions. Supplier Schedule Management: Maintain accurate supplier schedules and proactively adjust orders to align with changing business requirements and inventory strategies. Supply Risk Mitigation: Identify potential supply constraints early, assess risks to production plans, and coordinate solutions to protect business continuity. Supplier Performance Excellence: Monitor supplier performance through scorecards, drive accountability, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with demand planning, supply planning, operations, and suppliers to respond effectively to changing volume and product mix requirements. Inventory Optimization: Support inventory positioning and replenishment strategies that balance material availability with inventory efficiency and cost objectives. Exception Management & Problem Solving: Analyze planning system exceptions, evaluate supplier capabilities, and implement adjustments that support both operational needs and supplier capacity. Data-Driven Decision Making: Interpret key performance indicators, identify trends and improvement opportunities, and provide insights that strengthen supply chain performance and planning accuracy. To be successful in this role you will need the following: Strong materials planning and inventory management expertise , with the ability to leverage MRP systems and planning tools to balance supply, demand, and inventory levels. Analytical problem-solving skills to interpret KPIs, perform root cause analysis, and make data-driven decisions that improve supply chain performance. Experience managing engineering and part changes , including new part introductions, supersessions, and obsolescence activities while minimizing excess inventory. Effective collaboration and communication skills to build strong partnerships across suppliers, operations, planning, and other cross-functional teams. A results-driven mindset with a focus on accountability, continuous improvement, and process optimization to deliver operational excellence. Education, Licenses, Certifications College, university, or equivalent degree required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Experience Minimal to intermediate level of experience required. Ability to successfully manage responsibilities across multiple sites while thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a solid understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP). Knowledge of Plan for Every Part (PFEP) methodology to ensure the right part is delivered at the right time, in the right quantity, and to the right location. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and leverage different perspectives, cultures, and experiences to drive collaboration and innovation.
