Material Handler / Shipping & Receiving – Forklift & Overhead Crane Hercules Sheet Metal & Metal Buildings Chalmette, LA Pay: $17.00 per hour Job Type: Full-time Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM No weekends Job Description Hercules Sheet Metal & Metal Buildings is looking for a dependable, hardworking Material Handler / Shipping & Receiving team member to join our manufacturing operation. This is an important position in our day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for receiving incoming material, loading customer trucks, pulling accessories and materials for jobs, checking paperwork, and helping make sure every order is correct before it leaves our facility. Previous forklift and overhead crane experience is strongly preferred. We will train the right person on our products and procedures, but we are looking for someone who is comfortable working in an industrial environment and takes safety, accuracy, and quality seriously. Responsibilities Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move steel and other materials Load customer trucks and trailers safely and accurately Offload trucks and incoming material deliveries Check incoming material against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving paperwork Verify quantities, sizes, and products to make sure we received what was ordered Identify and report damaged, missing, or incorrect material Pull accessories and components needed for metal building and customer orders Organize materials for upcoming jobs Double-check orders before they are loaded or released to customers Perform quality-control checks on outgoing materials Help ensure customers receive the correct products, quantities, and accessories Keep inventory and material organized in designated areas Maintain a clean and safe work area Communicate with sales, production, and management when there are discrepancies or missing materials Follow all company safety procedures when operating equipment and handling steel What We're Looking For The right person for this position is dependable, organized, safety-conscious, and pays attention to detail. You need to be able to work independently, follow instructions, and recognize when something doesn't look right. This position is more than simply loading and unloading trucks. You are one of our final quality-control checks before an order reaches the customer. Accuracy matters. Preferred Experience Forklift operation Overhead crane operation Shipping and receiving Loading and unloading trucks Reading purchase orders, packing slips, and material lists Steel, sheet metal, metal building, manufacturing, warehouse, or construction-material experience Experience working with long or heavy steel materials is a plus. We will train the right candidate on Hercules products, inventory, paperwork, and procedures. Physical Requirements This is a hands-on position in an active manufacturing environment. Applicants must be able to: Work on their feet throughout the workday Bend, lift, carry, and move materials as required Work safely around forklifts, overhead cranes, trucks, steel, and manufacturing equipment Work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment that may be hot or cold depending on the weather Schedule Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM No weekends.
