Lewark Metal SpinningJob Title: Forklift Operator / Material Handler Reports To: Production Manager Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious Material Handler/Forklift Operator to support our manufacturing floor. In this dynamic role, you will ensure the production lines are continuously supplied with necessary materials, manage staging areas, maintain shop floor cleanliness, and handle essential day-to-day operational support tasks. Key Responsibilities Material & Line Support: Supply production lines with required materials, boxes, and dividers; pull tooling and materials for a 3-day production schedule and stage them accurately. Inventory & Quality Control: Verify material counts during pulls and immediately report discrepancies to the Production Manager. Housekeeping & Safety: Maintain a clean and hazard-free shop floor; sweep up shavings around Gaylords and keep aisleways clear; ensure full scrap and shavings bins are replaced at the start of each shift. Facility Maintenance: Put away stray tooling left on the floor; gather and store empty totes; ensure receiving Bay is completely clear for incoming truck arrivals by 4:45 PM daily. Communication & Coordination: Monitor and respond to calls for tool changes and material needs throughout the shop; answer internal shop phone calls as required; coordinate with shipping for new Gaylords when needed. Equipment Care: Plug in the forklift every evening to ensure it charges overnight. Qualifications & Skills Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Reasoning Ability: Strong ability to read, comprehend, and follow written work instructions, job routings, and verbal or diagrammed directions using common-sense understanding. Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Physical Demands & Work Environment Must be able to frequently stand, walk, climb stairs, twist, push, pull, reach, and use hands/fingers to handle materials. Regular ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds. The fast-paced environment may occasionally be high-stress due to shifting production schedule requirements. Ability to properly wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the shift.
