Material Handler

Percent of FTE: Full Time Supervisor: Store Manager (or supervisor on duty) The Materials Handler is responsible for transporting items from donors to appropriate store locations. He or she also straightens and organizes the furniture area, storage area and other work areas. This person works at both stores and the warehouse. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Driving Drives agency vehicle to assigned locations Lifts, loads and secures items on to the truck Inspects truck prior to departure Reports maintenance needs to the store manager Maintains accurate records of pick-ups, deliveries and truck maintenance Protects donations from damage during transport Maintains cleanliness of the agency’s vehicle (inside and outside) Refuels vehicle as needed Straightening/Organizing Straightens and organizes the furniture department Takes out and puts away seasonal items Assists cashier/sorters with moving boxes, bags and recycling; disposes of trash Tests electronic items Removes snow as requested Customer Service Greets customers/donors and helps them bring in donations (priority over unloading the truck) Offers store coupons and driver surveys to donors Lifting/Carrying Lifts and carries items from donor’s residence to the agency vehicle Lifts, carries and transports items from stores to warehouse Clears both store backrooms daily of recycling, garbage and cardboard Assists with loading and unloading items Empties clothing donation bins at scheduled times Warehouse Duties Drives forklift (certification required) Makes bales of clothing; adheres to baling schedule and load goals Sorts ragstock Maintains cleanliness and organization of warehouse Loads bales into semi trailer/shipping container for transport Reports bale numbers to manager Informs manager of clothing shortages or excess at warehouse Performs all other duties as requested by the Store Manager (or supervisor on duty) Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent; preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license and clean driving record; required. Ability to operate standard vehicles; required. Ability to read signs and addresses; required. Ability to work well with people; required. Ability to lift and carry 100 pounds; required. Ability to reach over the head with arms extended, horizontally and vertically; required. Full use of fingers, hands, arms, legs and feet; required. Ability to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend; required. Ability to work in an environment with dust and various vapors; required Ability to work under extremely hot or cold conditions; required. Consistent attendance; required. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; required. Ability to handle multiple priorities; required.
