Job Description: Material Allocator Job Description: The Material Allocator is responsible for optimizing raw material and plant resources before work orders are released to the plant. The role reviews order requirements, assigns available material, develops efficient nesting plans, and coordinates with Inside Sales and Operations to support accurate processing and on-time delivery. Strong spatial reasoning, manufacturing knowledge, attention to detail, and clear communication are essential for success. Key Functions: Material Allocation and Optimization · Review order specifications, dimensions, quantities, and processing requirements before work-order release. · Allocate raw material to work orders to maximize yield and minimize scrap and unnecessary material movement. · Develop effective nesting and cutting plans using three-dimensional thinking and knowledge of downstream processing. · Evaluate inventory, usable remnants, alternative stock sizes, and approved material substitutions. · Identify and escalate material shortages, conflicts, or capacity constraints before production release. Production Planning and System Execution · Prepare and release accurate work orders based on material availability, routing, and operational priorities. · Apply knowledge of band saw cutting, CNC machining, and rotary grinding when planning work. · Maintain accurate allocation, order, and inventory data in SAP, where applicable. · Communicate inventory discrepancies and coordinate corrections with Operations and Supply Chain Management Cross-Functional Coordination · Coordinate effectively with Inside Sales, Production, Supply Chain Management, and supporting functions. · Communicate allocation decisions, constraints, order status, and follow-up requirements promptly. · Manage multiple orders and priorities while supporting delivery, resource utilization, and process improvement. Requirements: Required Qualifications · Minimum of three years of operational experience in a metal fabrication and/or metal distribution environment. · Ability to think three-dimensionally and effectively nest materials before processing. · Working knowledge of band saw cutting, CNC machining, and rotary grinding. · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. · Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across Sales and Operations. · Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications · Experience with SAP or similar ERP · Previous Inside Sales experience in metals, manufacturing, or distribution. · Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
