Description

The Manufacturing Operations Manager provides hands-on leadership and operational oversight for production activities at the CanFab facility a VMC Group company, with a strong emphasis on sheet metal fabrication operations and ERP-driven production planning and execution. This role is responsible for translating business and operational strategy into day-to-day manufacturing execution, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. The role serves as a key operational leader, driving continuous improvement, optimizing ERP workflows, and developing frontline leaders and supervisors.

  

Responsibilities not limited to:


1. Manufacturing & Production Leadership

  • Lead daily manufacturing operations across sheet metal fabrication, welding, forming, assembly and material handling.
  • Ensure production schedules are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer delivery commitments.
  • Translate production goals into clear priorities for supervisors and shop-floor teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, quality, safety, and cost.
  • Escalate and resolve operational constraints impacting production flow or delivery.

2. ERP Systems & Production Planning

  • Serve as a primary operational owner of ERP usage within manufacturing.
  • Lead production planning, scheduling, and work-order execution using ERP systems.
  • Ensure accuracy and discipline in:
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Routings and labor standards
    • Inventory transactions and shop-floor reporting
  • Partner with Engineering and Supply Chain to resolve ERP discrepancies and improve system-driven workflows.
  • Train and reinforce ERP best practices among supervisors and production teams.

3. Sheet Metal Fabrication Expertise

  • Provide technical leadership across sheet metal process including: 
    • Cutting, bending, forming, welding, and finishing
    • Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings and specifications
  • Partner with Engineering to address manufacturability, tooling, and process improvements.
  • Support new product  introductions and engineering changes from a fabrication perspective.
  • Ensure standard work and process controls are established and followed on the shop floor.

4. Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture aligned with OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, standard work, and quality systems.
  • Partner with Quality to address nonconformances, corrective actions, and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead corrective actions to prevent repeat production or quality issues.

5. Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, leads, and hourly production teams.
  • Conduct performance management, goal setting, and development planning.
  • Work with HR on hiring, training, workforce planning, and employee engagement.
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely  with:
    • Engineering on drawings, routings, and production readiness
    • Supply Chain on material availability, inventory accuracy, and supplier coordination
    • Quality on compliance and corrective actions
    • Customer Service on production status and delivery recovery when required
  • Communicate production status, risks, and improvement progress to leadership.

  Minimum Qualifications 

  • 5–12+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience
  • Hands-on experience in sheet metal fabrication (required)
  • Strong ERP system experience (Infor, Epicor, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Proven production planning, scheduling, and capacity management skills
  • Experience leading supervisors and managing multi-shift operations (preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in ERP reporting tools and Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
