JOB SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Operations) is a key technical resource for composite part machining processes and is responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs, collaborating in CAD model development, and producing CAM programs while establishing manufacturing methods, process setup sheets, and material and tooling requisitions. The Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Operations) is also responsible for supporting process development to drive continuous improvement and contributing to accurate cost estimations. 

REPORTS TO

The Manufacturing Engineer directly reports to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer and indirectly to the Director of Engineering

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Education, Training, and/or Experience

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field required (experience may be considered in lieu degree)
  • CNC machine operation and programming experience
  • Experience producing and verifying parts in a production environment preferred
  • 5-axis programming experience preferred
  • Familiarity with composite part production processes and ERP/MRP systems preferred

  • Frequently working in and around factory areas in direct support of manufacturing activities
  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally bend, reach to shoulder level and lift, carry, twist, push and/or pull up to 30 pounds
  • Frequent hand-eye coordination, repetitive hand movement and manual dexterity use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing level within normal/average range

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Ability to read, interpret and understand technical drawings and engineering documents
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5: Part, Assembly, and Generative Shape Design, Drafting and Advanced Machining workbenches
  • Knowledgeable in GD&T
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with no/minimal supervision
  • Team player with a proactive, positive attitude and strong sense of self‐motivation, accountability, and responsibility
  • Ability and willingness to acclimate to the company culture and development goals
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare, store and maintain program files in database system (using CATIA V5)
  • Create CNC programs for assigned jobs
  • Develop manufacturing methods
  • Prepare process sheets and specify material requirements
  • Identify tooling requirements and order tooling as needed
  • Write instruction sheets and tool lists to guide set-up and operation of three- and five-axis CNC machines
  • Design and develop CNC work holding tools
  • Help train operators on the use of CNC machine controls and tools
  • Assist operators with setting up and running jobs; check status on the shop floor to ensure parts are acceptable
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic CNC machine errors and breakdowns
  • Help coordinate with external vendors for CNC machine maintenance and repair as needed
  • Estimate machine cycle times for quoting purposes
  • Coordinate with production schedulers to create plans that support on-time delivery
  • Support and participate in quality initiatives (e.g., industry audits, quality objectives)
  • Reduce or eliminate waste through workplace organization, simplifying set-ups and standardizing programs
  • Maintain and develop current knowledge and skills; stay informed of industry technologies and latest advancements
  • Other duties as assigned
