A day in the life of a Manager, Financial Master Data Governance at VF looks a little like this. As part of the Finance Systems organization, the Manager serves as the enterprise finance systems master data governance lead and a central gatekeeper for financial data consistency, clarity, and control. The role owns governance across all finance systems, and ensures that shared master data, hierarchies, mappings, and reporting dimensions are designed and maintained consistently across the finance technology landscape. The role combines broad finance systems knowledge with independent judgment, governance ownership, and cross-functional influence. It partners with Finance, Accounting, Technology, Internal Controls, enterprise Data Governance, and system administrators to evaluate changes, resolve conflicts, set requirements, and protect the integrity of financial data across global processes. Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more. Own and administer the finance master data governance framework across BlackLine, Group Reporting, Central Finance, BPC Planning, Coupa, AMT, Workday, and other connected finance applications. Serve as the central governance authority for financial master data, including company codes, cost centers, profit centers, general ledger accounts, legal entities, hierarchies, mappings, dimensions, and related reference data. Define and maintain enterprise finance data standards, ownership models, approval requirements, controls, decision rights, and operating procedures across systems and business processes. Evaluate and approve or escalate master data requests and proposed system changes based on business need, data consistency, reporting impact, downstream dependencies, control risk, and alignment with global standards. Ensure common data definitions, structures, mappings, and hierarchies remain aligned across source systems, consolidation, planning, procurement, lease administration, reconciliation, reporting, and human capital platforms. Partner closely with the BlackLine Global Administrator to establish master data and governance requirements for BlackLine design and changes, validate data inputs and mappings, and support-controlled deployment. Provide governance oversight for AMT master and reference data, including standards, ownership, quality, and cross-system alignment. Lead governance requirements for finance system implementations, enhancements, integrations, and data migrations by defining data design expectations, reviewing proposed solutions, directing testing priorities, and confirming implementation readiness. Monitor financial data quality across systems, identify inconsistencies and control gaps, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate remediation with business and technology owners. Resolve or facilitate decisions when system-specific requirements conflict with enterprise finance data standards, escalating material risks or policy exceptions to the appropriate governance forum. Maintain governance documentation, data definitions, process flows, lineage, control evidence, decision records, and training materials that support consistent execution and audit readiness. Guide finance users, system administrators, and project teams on governance expectations, master data impacts, and required controls; influence stakeholders to adopt global standards and sustainable solutions. Identify opportunities to simplify data structures, reduce manual intervention, strengthen controls, improve data quality, and standardize master data practices across finance systems.
