Maintenance Specialist Diesel Mechanic JobID: 1914 Position Type: Transportation/Maintenance Specialist Mechanic Date Posted: 10/20/2026 Location: Transportation Department Maintenance Specialist Mechanic JOB GOAL Incumbents are responsible for performing journey level trades maintenance activities. Incumbents serve as a lead to Maintenance Technicians on assigned projects. QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D) and two years of journey level trades experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties to the job such as those listed. Valid AZ Driver's License; For the position listed above, diesel engine repair experience and CDL are preferred. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Repairs and regulates District Buildings, fixtures, systems, facilities, and/or grounds by making journey level repairs or installations depending on area of assignment/expertise; responds to emergency calls for assistance; responds to customer complaints or safety concerns. Installs, makes and/or modifies a variety of materials, fixtures, and/or equipment Inspects facilities, systems, and/or fixtures and ensures periodic servicing. Prepares paperwork related to daily assignments Maintains and cleans systems and equipment KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
