Maintenance Mechanic- 3rd Shift
Wausau TilePosition Summary: We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to ensure the continuous and safe operation of our concrete manufacturing facility. This role is vital for minimizing downtime through the proactive maintenance and repair of batch plants, conveyor systems, and heavy industrial machinery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial welding. Key Responsibilities: Preventative Maintenance: Execute a structured daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedule, including lubrication of bearings, oiling of shafts, and cleaning of machine parts to prevent premature wear. Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical and hydraulic malfunctions in specialized equipment such as mixers, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and air compressors. Equipment Installation: Assemble, install, and test new production machinery, ensuring all components are aligned and calibrated according to manufacturer specifications. Fabrication & Welding: Perform metal cutting, grinding, and welding to repair worn plant structures, bins, or hoppers and fabricate replacement parts as needed. Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and OSHA safety standards while working around moving mechanical parts and high-pressure air systems. Facility Upkeep: Maintain the physical plant structure, including basic plumbing and general repairs to buildings and yard infrastructure. Inventory Management: Track and order replacement parts, tools, and supplies to ensure essential items are in stock for emergency repairs. Documentation: Record all maintenance activities, inspections, and repair work in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or daily activity logs. Communication: Effective communication with the team is critical both on current shift and with peers and leadership on other shifts as required. Preferred Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; technical certification or formal apprenticeship is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 2–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a concrete plant, quarry, or heavy manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers) and standard power tools. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/stairs, and work in confined spaces or at heights. Valid driver’s license is required; forklift certification or welding certification is highly desirable. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (both heat and cold) and loud, dusty environments. Availability for overtime, shift work, and emergency call-outs, including occasional weekends.
