Position Overview:
The Machine Shop Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the machine shop operations, ensuring high standards of productivity, quality, and safety. This role requires strong leadership, a deep understanding of machining processes, and the ability to manage both personnel and resources effectively. The Machine Shop Manager will collaborate closely with production teams, engineering, and business development to meet production goals, drive cost efficiencies, and ensure that customer needs are met on time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a continuous improvement culture by identifying opportunities, encouraging collaboration, and using a data driven approach to the improvement of the machine shop. 
  • Implement and roll out AS9100 compliance in conjunction with Quality Assurance and Quality Management System utilizing Application Engineering and Machine Shop Production Manager.
  • Initiate, create and drive the implementation of the 5S program including a preventative maintenance program to ensure that the production manager is able to maintain this on the production floor.
  • Provide pricing insights to the Profitability Manager and VP of Business Development, while driving cost savings, time efficiencies, and leveraging expertise for continuous improvement. 
  • Provide a process and culture that provides DFM feedback to engineering by utilizing Senior staff and Applications Engineering.
  • Lead employee performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and support Supervisors in ensuring SOP compliance in conjunction with the Production Manager.
  • Develop and execute an in-house Machine Shop Training Program, while fostering talent growth and addressing department resource needs. 
  • Stay updated on machining technologies and offer input on capital investments to enhance departmental performance and support business growth. Provide strong leadership across organizational resources to ensure best-in-class, on-time delivery for both internal and external customers. 
  • Offer strategic input and recommendations for future capital equipment investments to support the long-term growth and performance goals set by the Executive Leadership Team. 

What You Will Bring to the Team:

  • Over 5 years of machine shop management experience, specializing in multi-axis milling and work holding methods to ensure precision and efficiency.
  • Strong focus on precision work, with a keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach to consistently meet quality standards.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting mechanical documents and drawings, ensuring accurate execution of complex tasks.
  • Excellent written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, facilitating effective team collaboration and task management.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite for efficient documentation, reporting, and scheduling.
  • Exemplary attendance with a strong commitment to completing tasks on time and adhering to production schedules.
  • Adaptable to a changing work environment, able to adjust to new challenges and demands efficiently.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident in compliance with ITAR regulations.

Hours of Operation:

Normal business hours: 7:00AM – 4:00PM; Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays as scheduled by leadership.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor activities with varying conditions
  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, bending, reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • May involve operating material handling equipment in a safe manner
  • Work may include exposure to variable noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc., requiring personal protective equipment
  • Some positions may require working with small parts/components, necessitating excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
