Long Haul Truck Driver – Xtra Group Inc Xtra Group Inc is hiring 3 full-time, permanent long haul truck drivers to operate tractor-trailers, including refrigerated units, on routes within Canada and the USA, dispatched from our terminal in Kemptville, Ontario. Work location: 14 Jayland Dr, Kemptville, ON K0G 1J0 (on the road – long haul routes within Canada and the USA) Terms of employment: Permanent, full-time Wage: $37.50 per hour, plus $10.00 commission per load Hours: 55 to 65 hours per week. Overtime paid in accordance with applicable employment standards. Start date: As soon as possible Language of work: English or French Duties: - Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials within Canada and the USA - Drive solo or as part of a two-person team or convoy - Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using GPS or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions - Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of the vehicle - Oversee the condition of the vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment - Perform preventive maintenance - Tarp and ensure the safety and security of cargo - Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption - Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes - Receive and relay information to central dispatch - Provide professional customer service Requirements: - Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or equivalent experience - 1 year to less than 2 years of experience - Valid AZ (Class 1 or A) driver's licence with Air Brake (Z) endorsement - Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles - Experience with tractor-trailer and refrigerated equipment - Long-haul, national and international (cross-border) driving experience - Knowledge of driver logbooks, bills of lading and trip reports - Ability to operate GPS and trip recorder (on-board computer) systems - Valid passport and willingness to travel cross-border, internationally, overnight and for extended periods - Satisfactory driver's licence validity check, criminal record check, drug test and medical exam - Own safety equipment: steel-toed safety boots, safety vest, gloves and hard hat Work conditions: - Physically demanding work with long periods of sitting, repetitive tasks and a large workload - Attention to detail Personal suitability: - Reliability, judgement, flexibility, patience, hardworking and a team player Benefits: - Disability benefits - Paramedical services coverage - Paid training - Free parking Relocation costs are not covered by the employer.
