Logistics Analyst, Railroad Logistics Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Logistics Analyst, Railroad Logistics to support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective movement of chemical and petrochemical products across North America. This role is responsible for optimizing rail transportation operations, managing carrier performance, analyzing freight costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance supply chain efficiency and customer service. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in rail logistics, transportation planning, freight analytics, and carrier relationship management within a manufacturing, chemical, petrochemical, or industrial environment. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day rail transportation activities supporting the manufacturing and distribution network. Monitor railcar movements and shipment status to ensure timely delivery of inbound raw materials and outbound finished products. Analyze rail transportation performance, transit times, dwell times, and equipment utilization to identify improvement opportunities. Collaborate with Class I railroads, short-line carriers, and third-party logistics providers to resolve service issues and improve transportation reliability. Develop and maintain transportation KPI dashboards, including on-time performance, detention, demurrage, cycle time, and freight cost metrics. Conduct freight spend analysis and identify cost-saving opportunities through network optimization and carrier negotiations. Support rail fleet management activities, including railcar allocation, utilization, maintenance planning, and inventory management. Evaluate transportation routes and rail service options to improve operational efficiency and reduce overall logistics costs. Work closely with supply chain, production planning, customer service, procurement, and warehouse teams to ensure seamless product movement. Assist in transportation contract administration and carrier performance reviews. Identify risks related to rail congestion, service disruptions, weather events, and infrastructure constraints and develop mitigation plans. Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, hazardous materials requirements, and company safety standards. Generate regular reports and present logistics performance findings to management and key stakeholders. Participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing supply chain visibility and transportation efficiency. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or railroad operations. Strong understanding of North American rail transportation networks and railroad operating practices. Experience working with Class I railroads such as Union Pacific, BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Canadian National, and Canadian Pacific Kansas City. Advanced analytical skills with experience utilizing transportation and logistics data. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, and advanced reporting functions. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP and Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience within the chemical, petrochemical, plastics, energy, or manufacturing industry. Knowledge of railcar fleet management and hazardous materials transportation. Familiarity with SAP Transportation Management (TM), SAP S/4HANA, or similar platforms. Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence tools. APICS, CLTD, Six Sigma, or related supply chain certifications. Understanding of railroad tariffs, freight contracts, and demurrage management.
