Role To plan, coordinate, oversee, manage, negotiate and direct PTI service providers in the providing of safe, timely and cost- effective transportation and heavy hauling/rigging services for power transformers and transformer related accessories, ensuring timely delivery while being sensitive to protecting PTI assets and exposure to warranty claims that may result from inappropriate handling during transportation or offloading. Responsibilities Set up and manage the logistical and financial aspects of transporting materials by truck, road, rail, ocean, and other transportation methods. Provide analysis of freight modes, classifications, dimensional loads, routings for all inbound and outbound freight Provide freight estimates to Sales & Quotations and Supply Chain departments Ensure freight requirements are met in a cost effective and efficient manner Ensure all shipments and documentation are in compliance with applicable regulations, and as per customer specifications Provide all technical design information in order to meet all road restrictions Communicate any and all logistics related matters with both internal and external stakeholders. Handle and resolve customer complaints Insurance/transport damages – file claims for incoming/outgoing damaged materials Check customs issues for inbound/outbound shipments Contract offloaders – rates, schedules, requisition for purchase orders, and approve invoices Negotiate, set-up and manage offloading contracts Coordinate work in process with Production Supervisors to ensure internal customer requirements are met and smooth production flow is achieved without interruptions Meet all departmental goals in relation to output, quality, and on-time delivery of materials Attend production meetings Ensure equipment is being kept in good condition Order departmental supplies, as needed Prepare applicable production reports Perform supervisor critical inspections and ensure corrective actions are performed Communicate milestone dates to Contract Administration & Quality Assurance to schedule inspections Understand the product and processes in the assigned and surrounding departments Recommend improvements in shipping methods Work with External Customers as required for inspections and repairs Develop a complete comprehension of labour contract to ensure that all decisions and actions are in compliance. Enforce company policies and rules consistently Perform according to company’s certified ISO standards Coordinate and manage the transportation of oversized and dimensional transformer shipments by truck/road, Canadian National (CN), and other railway networks as required. Liaise directly with rail carriers, trucking companies, transportation authorities, and specialized transportation service providers to secure permits, routing approvals, and transportation requirements. Attend EQP, transformer design, and project planning meetings to provide transportation and logistics expertise during the design phase Perform final logistics and transportation readiness reviews prior to shipment to ensure compliance with customer, carrier, railway, regulatory, and project requirements Review and approve transformer storage fees and associated charges when customer-owned equipment remains at PTI facilities beyond scheduled shipping dates Ensure all customs, export, and import documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable regulations and customer requirements. Coordinate inbound and outbound transportation projects involving rail, road, ocean, and intermodal freight movements while maintaining cost, schedule, and safety objectives. Requirements Minimum 5 years of logistics, transportation, supply chain, or traffic management experience involving oversized, dimensional, heavy-haul, truck/road, rail, and international shipments.
