Log Yard Foreman

Job Summary Full-time hands-on position in an outdoor industrial environment. Log Yard Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient, and organized operation of the log yard. This role oversees the receiving, unloading, scaling/grading, trimming, sorting, inventory management, and delivery of hardwood logs to the sawmill. The position ensures the mill has a consistent supply of the right species, size, and grade while protecting log quality and maximizing recovery. Full-Time Monday-Friday 6am-4:30pm with occasional overtime Pay determined upon hire Duties Follow and enforce all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements for yard employees Coordinate and supervise the unloading of incoming log trucks Perform accurate scaling and grading of hardwood logs Optimize log trimming/cut-offs to ensure minimal damage to sawmill equipment Ensure proper documentation of scale tickets, BOLs, and other supplier information Communicate quality issues promptly with log buyer and mill manager Work closely with mill manager and log buyers to match log supply with mill needs Maintain accurate log inventory by species and grade Requirements Knowledge of hardwood species identification Familiarity with common hardwood log rules (Doyle) and grade standards preferred Experience operating log loaders, chain saw Ability to work outside in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks associated with a log yard Basic computer skills for inventory tracking, report generation, and email Log grading and scaling experience Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Work Location: In person
