CJ Crane ServicePosition Summary The Locomotive Electrician/Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing both the complex electrical systems and heavy mechanical components of our locomotive fleet. Job Duties Electrical Diagnostics & Maintenance Install, wire, and troubleshoot electrical components, including motors, controllers, sensors, and PLCs. Perform preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the ongoing functionality and safety of DMVW equipment. Diagnose and repair electrical faults, malfunctions, and breakdowns in a timely manner to minimize downtime. Properly use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices Receive and apply training on new technologies and equipment. Mechanical Service · Inspect, diagnose, and repair internal diesel engine systems, power assemblies, fuel injection systems, turbochargers, and water/lube oil pumps. · Maintain and overhaul locomotive running gear, including wheels, axles, trucks, suspension components, and draft gears. · Service, test, and repair pneumatic braking systems, air compressors, and associated valving in accordance with FRA regulations. Required Knowledge/Skills : · High School Diploma or GED required. Technical degree, certificate, or formal apprenticeship completion in Diesel Technology, Electrical/Electronics, or Industrial Maintenance is highly preferred. · Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in heavy industrial electrical troubleshooting and mechanical repair (experience with freight locomotives is heavily weighted). · Demonstrated proficiency in reading and working from electrical blueprints and fluid power schematics. Knowledge of DC/AC, Voltage Circuit Theory and practical troubleshooting skills Knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment. Must have strong troubleshooting/problem solving skills to identify the root cause, and systematically solve problems. Knowledge of basic IT skills and MS Office Application. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply critical thinking and solve practical problems in a variety of situations. Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Understanding of the metric system. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Willingness to adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations at all times. Physical Demands: Must be able to bend, balance, crouch, reach above & below shoulder level, stoop and walk. Grasp hand & track tools, materials & equipment. Climb on & off equipment or machines, kneel, squat, ascend & descend ladders, sit, ascend & descend stairs, twist, push & pull.
