Capital Transportation Academy is seeking an experienced, State of Ohio-licensed Class A CDL Instructor to provide pre-release CDL training at the Grafton Reintegration Center in Grafton, Ohio. Capital Transportation Academy has provided CDL training at Richland and Grafton locations since 2015. This established workforce-development program has trained more than 500 individuals, achieved a CDL attainment rate exceeding 90% , and demonstrated meaningful reentry outcomes. This is an opportunity for an experienced CDL instructor who wants a stable four-day workweek while using their professional driving and instructional experience to help individuals prepare for successful employment and reentry following release. The selected instructor will work with a small cohort of four trainees at a time and will be responsible for delivering the complete 160-clock-hour Class A CDL training program. Training Includes: Classroom instruction Range instruction (Vehicle inspection & backing maneuvers) Road instruction Proficiency assessment Preparation for the CDL skills examination The program provides Class A CDL training in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements under Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR), Part 380, Subparts F and G, including Appendices A through E, as well as Ohio Administrative Code 4501-7-28. Because this instructor will be responsible for delivering all CDL training at the Grafton location, we are seeking an experienced professional who is a self-starter, can work independently, manage the day-to-day instructional program, and maintain a thorough working knowledge of applicable FMCSA, ELDT, Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS), and State of Ohio commercial driver training requirements. Responsibilities: Provide classroom, range, and road instruction to a four-person cohort of CDL trainees. Deliver the complete 160-clock-hour Class A CDL training curriculum. Maintain accurate records of trainee attendance and training hours. Monitor and document trainee skill progression and demonstrated skill proficiency. Maintain required ELDT training records and documentation. Regularly report trainee progress, instructional activity, training hours, and program status to the CDL Training Manager and Chief Operating Officer. Coordinate CDL skills-test scheduling with appropriate internal staff. Promptly notify management and appropriate staff of truck, trailer, or other training-equipment concerns. Maintain a safe, organized, and professional training environment. Participate in trainee graduation ceremonies and other program-related activities. Qualifications: Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License — Required Current CDL Instructor License issued by the Ohio Department of Public Safety — Required Prior experience providing commercial driver training Experience providing classroom, range, and road instruction Working knowledge of FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training requirements and State of Ohio commercial driver training requirements Ability to independently manage day-to-day training activities Strong documentation, communication, and trainee-evaluation skills Correctional Institution Training: Prior correctional-institution experience is not required . The selected candidate will receive correctional-institution contractor training to ensure a clear understanding of the institutional policies, procedures, security requirements, and operating rules applicable to the training environment.
