Position Summary: EPLS is seeking an experienced, highly organized Lead Pharmacy Technician to oversee and support daily specialty-medication sourcing, prescription-processing, and patient-support operations. This role combines hands-on pharmacy technician responsibilities with team leadership, workflow coordination, training, quality oversight, and escalation management. The Lead Pharmacy Technician will help ensure patients receive timely access to high-cost specialty medications by coordinating with approved vendors, manufacturers, providers, insurance companies, and internal EPLS staff. The ideal candidate is a Certified Pharmacy Technician with strong knowledge of specialty medications, prior authorizations, insurance and billing processes, regulatory compliance, and patient-centered service. This position is primarily office-based and offers a hybrid remote work arrangement in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Workflow Coordination: Lead, prioritize, and monitor daily technician workflow related to prescription intake, specialty-medication sourcing, prior authorizations, documentation, delivery coordination, and patient follow-up. Serve as a primary operational resource for pharmacy technicians and staff, providing guidance on procedures, systems, service standards, and escalation pathways. Assist with onboarding, training, mentoring, and competency development for new pharmacy technicians and other applicable staff. Support assignment of daily workload and help balance task volume to ensure timely patient care and minimize medication-access delays. Identify workflow barriers, recurring service issues, documentation gaps, and opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, patient communication, and cost savings. Communicate operational concerns, trends, staffing needs, and high-priority patient issues to pharmacy leadership in a timely manner. Assist with development, maintenance, and implementation of standard operating procedures, training resources, and workflow documentation. Specialty Medication Sourcing and Coordination: Identify, research, and source high-cost and specialty medications through approved vendors, manufacturers, patient-assistance programs, and other authorized procurement channels. Monitor specialty-drug availability, order status, shipment tracking, delivery timelines, and patient-access barriers to prevent interruptions in therapy. Maintain current knowledge of medications available through EPLS, including sourcing options, vendor requirements, pricing considerations, and program processes. Coordinate with manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, providers, patients, and internal staff to obtain necessary information and resolve sourcing or fulfillment issues. Track and document medication sourcing activities, purchase orders, shipment details, delivery confirmations, and related patient records. Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities, alternative sourcing options, manufacturer assistance programs, and appropriate medication-access solutions within established policies. Prescription, Authorization, and Documentation Management: Process prescriptions accurately and efficiently in accordance with pharmacy procedures, payer requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations. Coordinate prior authorizations, benefits investigations, refill requests, insurance communications, and other medication-access activities. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient, prescription, vendor, purchasing, and delivery documentation. Review records for completeness and accuracy; identify missing information, discrepancies, or follow-up needs and take appropriate action.
