Lead Fleet Mechanic
Miller Yard Care and ConstructionLead Fleet Mechanic, Year-Round, Full-Time $30–$35/hour, based on experience Run the shop. Keep the fleet rolling. Miller Yard Care & Construction is a growing outdoor services company in Detroit Lakes with lawn, landscape, irrigation, tree, and snow divisions. Our crews run hard 12 months a year, and they only win when the equipment works. We need a hands-on mechanic who takes full ownership of our fleet and shop. This is a wrenching job first. You'll spend most of your day diagnosing and fixing equipment, in the shop and in the field. You'll also own the parts ordering, vendor relationships, and the systems that keep everything running. We do nearly all our work in-house. What you'll work on Pickups, trailers, tractors, loaders, skid steers, commercial mowers, and small engines like trimmers. Gas, diesel, hydraulics, and electrical. What you'll own Repairs and diagnosis: You find the problem and fix it right, without needing someone to walk you through it. Field service: When equipment breaks down on a job site, you head out, get it running, and get the crew back to work. Preventive maintenance: You build and run a PM schedule so problems get caught in the shop, not on a job site. Prioritizing: You decide what gets fixed first so crews aren't sitting. Nothing leaves the shop broken. Parts and vendors: You keep inventory stocked, control costs, and build good relationships with suppliers. Communication: When someone asks where a repair stands, you know. If you're stuck, you've already figured out the next step or who to call. Shop help: You direct an additional shop helper, setting their priorities and making sure work gets done right. Who we're looking for You've got real mechanical experience. That could be farm equipment, a dealership, construction, or a fleet. A certification is a plus but not required. Skill and drive matter more than paper. You figure things out. "I don't know" isn't where you stop; it's where you start digging. You're organized and detail-oriented. Your shop is clean and your parts are labeled, and you know where everything stands. You manage your own time and priorities without being chased. You're honest, reliable, and do what you say you'll do. You own your mistakes, treat crew leads like customers, and can have a straight conversation without getting defensive. You have a valid driver's license and a DOT medical card, or can get one. Physical demands This is a physical job. You'll regularly lift and move parts and equipment over 50 lbs. You'll be on your feet most of the day and kneeling, crawling, and working under equipment. You'll work in all seasons, including cold-weather service calls. Why work here Year-round, full-time work. This is not a seasonal job. Expect potential on-call coverage during some snow events. $30–$35/hour based on experience. A clean, well-lit shop with vehicle lifts, major tools, and diagnostic equipment. A fully loaded service truck for field calls, so you have what you need on site. Real ownership. Prove yourself and you'll run this program your way. If you're tired of being a number at a dealership, or you're a farm-raised mechanic looking for steady year-round fleet work, we want to hear from you. This is not a helper job.
