Junior Research & Design Associate Location: Ottawa, ON | Full-Time, On-Site Department: Research, Design & Engineering About the Role We are looking for a curious, hands-on Junior Research & Design Associate to join our Research, Design & Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants to gain broad, practical experience across mechanical, electrical, chemical/process, and equipment design . You’ll work closely with senior engineers on the development, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of specialized cleaning technologies and equipment. If you enjoy taking a problem apart, figuring out how things work, building and testing solutions, and learning across different areas of engineering, this could be a great fit. What You'll Do Support the design and development of equipment, systems, and components. Create and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials. Assist with prototypes, equipment assembly, testing, and validation. Execute test plans, document results, and help identify areas for improvement. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues. Participate in root-cause analysis and help develop corrective actions. Research new technologies, materials, components, and engineering methods. Support design reviews, design-for-manufacturing activities, and production-ready documentation. Review vendor drawings, datasheets, and technical specifications. Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and field operations teams. Maintain accurate engineering records, test documentation, and project files. Contribute ideas and support continuous improvement across R&D projects. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Process, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline . 0–3 years of engineering experience ; recent graduates and early-career engineers are encouraged to apply. Strong interest in working across multiple engineering disciplines. Hands-on mindset and willingness to work in a lab or workshop environment. Ability to assemble, test, troubleshoot, and learn through practical experimentation. Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar is an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to approach unfamiliar or ambiguous problems in a structured way. Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical work. Comfortable learning new tools, technologies, and engineering processes. Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site position in Ottawa, ON , based in a hands-on lab and workshop environment. Occasional travel may be required for field installations, vendor visits, or customer sites. PPE is required in laboratory and production areas, and safety is a fundamental part of the role. Hours: 40 hours per week, with occasional flexibility required for critical testing or project deadlines.
