Junior Project Manager
Black Spruce BuildersBlack Spruce Builders – Yellowknife, NT Residential & Commercial Construction Black Spruce Builders is looking for a motivated Junior Project Manager / Project Coordinator with practical construction experience to join our team in Yellowknife. We work on a variety of residential and commercial construction projects, including renovations, tenant improvements and new construction. This is a development position for someone who has a good understanding of construction and wants to grow into project management. The successful candidate will work directly alongside experienced project management and field personnel, assisting with the day-to-day coordination of multiple construction projects while receiving hands-on training and mentorship. Key Responsibilities Working under the direction of the Project Manager, the successful candidate will assist with: Estimating & Tendering: Quantity takeoffs, material and subcontractor pricing, and tender preparation. Procurement: Material orders, purchase orders, supplier coordination, lead times and deliveries. Scheduling: Project schedules, short-term planning, and coordination of manpower, equipment and materials. Project Documentation: Reviewing drawings, specifications and revisions, and maintaining project records. RFIs & Submittals: Preparing, organizing and tracking RFIs, submittals, shop drawings and approvals. Extras & Change Orders: Identifying, documenting and assisting with the preparation and tracking of extras and change orders. Project Coordination: Communicating with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients. Progress Reporting: Collecting site updates, maintaining progress records and following up on outstanding items. Safety & Quality Control: Assisting with safety documentation, inspections, quality control and deficiency tracking. Project Administration: Assisting with permits, meetings, action items and project closeout documentation. Qualifications & Experience Required: Previous experience in residential and/or commercial construction. Practical understanding of construction methods, materials and sequencing. Ability to read and understand construction drawings. Strong organizational, communication and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple assigned tasks and follow through on responsibilities. Willingness to learn and develop project management skills. Preferred Qualifications (Assets): Journeyman Carpenter certification or other relevant trade experience. Education or training in construction management, estimating or project coordination. Experience with estimating, procurement or construction scheduling. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software. Work Environment This is a primarily office-based position, with occasional site visits as required to review construction progress, attend meetings and assist with project coordination.
