Together, our combined USDA inspected operations offer a comprehensive protein platform ranging from artisan, local-farm sourcing to high-volume commercial supply. About the Role We are looking for a detail-oriented, eager-to-learn Junior Meat & Seafood Buyer to join our Greater Sacramento team supporting both Corfini Meat & Seafood and Calvada Food Sales. This is an entry-level position designed to give you a foundational, hands-on understanding of protein procurement, inventory management, and market pricing dynamics across both specialty culinary and broadline wholesale channels. Working directly alongside the Director of Purchasing, you will start by mastering core data entry, purchase order processing, and receiving logistics. Through direct mentorship, your responsibilities will steadily expand to include product age monitoring, creating push lists, evaluating market pricing, and eventually making autonomous purchasing decisions. Key Responsibilities Phase 1: Core Operations & PO Management Purchase Order Entry: Accurately input, track, and manage daily Purchase Orders (POs) across beef, pork, poultry, and seafood lines for both specialty and high-volume wholesale accounts using Aspen Canopy ERP software. Order Tracking & Logistics: Verify vendor confirmations, monitor delivery schedules into our Sacramento and Reno facilities, update purchasing records in Aspen Canopy, and resolve basic pricing or shipping discrepancies. Inventory & Product Age Control: Monitor daily inventory levels and stock aging within Aspen Canopy to safeguard freshness and maximize product rotation across high-turnover warehouse stock. Phase 2: Expanded Analytical & Operational Support Push Lists & Specials: Collaborate daily with the Director of Purchasing to create sales push lists, move lists, and promotional specials tailored across diverse foodservice, retail, and wholesale market sectors to optimize inventory turnover and minimize waste. Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner hand-in-hand with sales, warehouse staff, and receiving teams to align incoming inventory with daily customer demand. Market & Cost Review: Assist in reviewing vendor cost sheets, tracking USDA market trends, and analyzing product pricing, yield, and quality grades across diverse customer profiles. Growth Track: Category Leadership & Independent Procurement Progressively take on direct supplier communications, evaluate local and volume sourcing options, negotiate spot buys, and execute independent purchasing strategies for designated protein categories. Qualifications Industry Passion & Knowledge: Prior experience or a strong interest in food purchasing, procurement, or supply chain for protein—including a basic understanding of cuts, species, and quality grades. Background in food service, wholesale distribution, grocery, or culinary arts is a plus.
