Inventory Specialist
Morrison Mentors, Inc.About Us Morrison Mentors is a STEM-focused nonprofit bringing hands-on learning to students and communities across Long Island. We are launching our STEM afterschool programs and preparing for our one off events, and we need an experienced inventory professional to support our inventory efforts The Role You will build the inventory system behind our programs and events, and teach with the materials you manage. This is a data-first role with a hands-on teaching component. What You'll Do Clean and consolidate Merge multiple lists and spreadsheets into one master database Remove duplicates and standardize item names, categories, and units Assign unique item IDs and apply barcode or QR labels Record quantity, condition, storage location, and value for each item Structure for real use Build kit bills of materials, so each activity lists exactly what it needs Create pull sheets and packing lists for classes and events Set minimum stock levels and reorder points for consumables Track check-outs, returns, and damaged or missing items across sites Analyze and report Log usage by program, site, and term Forecast supply needs and flag shortages before sessions begin Build dashboards for leadership, plus purchase lists for budgeting and donor requests Make it last Set data entry rules and naming conventions Write simple documentation so instructors and staff can maintain the system Schedule routine audits to keep records accurate Also: STEM Instruction Lead hands-on afterschool sessions and community events Staff activity stations at STEM·X Set up and break down materials for each session Required Qualifications A proven track record of inventory management, such as [1+ years] managing, tracking, or auditing inventory, equipment, or assets in a real operating environment Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in data science, statistics, computer science, analytics, or a related field Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, plus SQL or Python Experience with data cleaning, deduplication, and analysis Strong attention to detail and a love of organized systems Clear communication with non-technical teammates Interest in teaching or mentoring students Inventory Experience That Counts Pleasebe ready to share where you have done this work. Strong examples include: Equipment, lab, or makerspace management Retail, stockroom, or warehouse operations, including cycle counts and restocking Logistics, shipping, or order fulfillment using SKU systems Library, IT, or school asset tracking and device check-out systems Event or production support, including kit packing and gear tracking across venues Hands-on use of inventory tools such as Sortly, Airtable, barcode or QR systems, or ERP software Measurable results, such as reducing discrepancies, cutting stockouts, or building a tracking system from scratch Bonus: Power BI, Tableau, or Airtable. Familiarity with maker tech like 3D printing, circuits, or drones. Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 – 20.0 per week Work Location: In person
