The Inventory Profitability Analyst plays a pivotal role in optimizing the financial performance of a specialty pharmacy's inventory. This role is responsible for analyzing, forecasting, and improving inventory-related profitability metrics, including cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory turnover, and gross margin. The analyst will work closely with finance, procurement, and operations teams to ensure cost-effective purchasing, reduce waste, and support product sourcing strategic decision-making. This position requires strong financial acumen, data analysis expertise, and an understanding of the unique market dynamics of specialty pharmacy products. Responsibilities: Analyze the cost structure of inventory, including purchase prices, carrying costs, and indirect expenses, to identify areas for improvement. Track and report on Gross Margin Return on Investment (GMROI), COGS, and other profitability metrics. Track inventory turnover rates and recommend actions to improve turnover while minimizing obsolescence. Identify slow-moving or excess inventory and support liquidation or redistribution efforts to reduce financial losses. Collaborate with commercial and finance teams to review supplier agreements, pricing terms, and payment schedules. Analyze the impact of volume discounts, rebates, and supplier incentives on overall profitability. Perform variance analysis to identify discrepancies in purchase price, reimbursement rates, and utilization forecasts. Work closely with finance, procurement, and pharmacy operations teams to align on profitability goals. Collaborate with pharmacy teams to ensure optimal purchasing of specialty medications. Partner with accounting to support month-end close processes related to inventory valuation and cost accounting. Participate in internal audits and compliance reviews related to inventory controls and financial reporting. Required: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. 2-5 years of experience in inventory analysis, financial analysis, or profitability analysis (experience in a specialty pharmacy, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals preferred). Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and understanding of healthcare-specific inventory models. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, financial modeling). Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite) and business intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SQL).
