Inventory & ERP Systems Manager
Brent Material CompanyCompany A regional waterworks and supply distributor — pipe, fittings, valves, hydrants, and related infrastructure products. We serve municipal, commercial, and contractor markets. We run Microsoft Business Central and are growing our operational systems to support the business accurately and efficiently. Role Summary We need an experienced operations and systems professional who can bridge the gap between the yard, front office, and IT. This is not a pure IT role and not a pure accounting role — it is the person who makes sure our inventory data reflects reality, our item master is clean and consistent, and our sales team has accurate information to serve customers. You will own Microsoft Business Central as a functional system — working with our IT team, Sales team, and accounting department to configure it correctly, and working with yard and sales staff to make sure it is used correctly. Invenory Control and Items Master/Invenory Card Manager Own and maintain the Microsoft BC item master — eliminate duplicate codes, consolidate multi-manufacturer SKUs using cross-references and item substitutions Establish and enforce a process for new item creation — one gatekeeper, one standard Conduct cycle counts and reconcile physical inventory to BC records Identify and correct the root causes of negative inventory — receiving vs. shipping mismatches, wrong codes on returns, manual workarounds Keep item card pricing current in Business Central by updating the master item list as pricing changes occur. Shift inventory purchasing from a sales-reactive model to one based on stock level needs and market conditions. Microsoft Business Central Operations Serve as the functional owner of BC for Inventory — translate business needs into system requirements for the IT team Fix and standardize the credit memo and returns workflow so postings reverse correctly Build or configure inventory availability reporting that gives sales one clear, accurate number Train staff on correct BC procedures — sales, receiving, and yard team Yard & Receiving Coordination Work directly with yard staff to move manual paper-based processes into BC Work with receiving to sort lots that were incorrectly consolidated by the vendor upon delivery. Document receiving, returns, and adjustment procedures in plain language Be the escalation point when something doesn't match — before it becomes a bigger problem Reporting & Visibility Create a daily or weekly inventory report sales can trust Flag slow-moving, excess, or missing inventory to purchasing and management Support CFO with operational data for financial review Required 3+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft Business Central or Dynamics NAV in a distribution environment (or other ERP System) Direct experience cleaning up item masters, cross-references, or duplicate SKU problems Background in distribution — building materials, waterworks, PVF, industrial supply, or similar Able to explain system issues in plain English to non-technical staff Comfortable working in a yard environment — not just an office Detail-oriented and persistent — you care that the number is right Strong Plus Experience with Power BI or BC reporting/queries Familiarity with fire protection or waterworks product lines (hydrants, ductile iron pipe, valves, fittings) Experience building or improving ERP adoption at a branch or satellite location Not Required Accounting degree or CPA — this is an operations role, not finance Software development or BC technical administration What Success Looks Like — First 6 Months 30 Days Walk the yard.
