Responsibilities : The Garden District Book Shop is growing our team by adding an Inventory Coordinator, who will be responsible for maintaining book shop stock levels by placing orders, receiving merchandise, following up on any shipment issues, monitoring inventory quality, and managing returns. We are looking for enthusiastic, curious candidates to provide consistent operational support and ensure an exceptional customer experience. Some of your key responsibilities as an Inventory Coordinator will include: Maintain inventory records and track the status of incoming and outgoing shipments Manage incoming deliveries by verifying purchase orders and inspecting for damage Communicate with vendors to resolve short-ships, damages, and other issues Work with Floor Manager to ensure floor is appropriately stocked and assess need to reorder, return, or remove merchandise Organize and ship merchandise returns to vendors and track to ensure shop receives credit Organize and ship customer deliveries Support buyer in managing book fair inventory by receiving and organizing stock and creating and maintaining inventory records Assist booksellers on the sales floor or cash register, as needed Maintain a clean, organized receiving and storage area Set up and staff off-site events as needed Weekly or monthly donation deliveries (no more than 2 miles) helpful Track and distribute advanced reader copies received Support other book store operations as needed Requirements : The GDBS succeeds because of our team’s creativity, problem solving, and collaboration. We believe a successful Inventory Coordinator will have: High school diploma or equivalent 1-3 years of retail experience (includes part-time work, internships, etc) Valid driver’s license (preferred) Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) and inventory systems required, familiarity with Booklog (or similar bookstore inventory program) highly valued Demonstrated experience with data entry and knowledge of spreadsheet software (Excel) Experience in shipping and receiving is valued Familiarity with bookstore environment preferred Experience with customer-facing sales preferred Excellent attention to detail, ensuring consistently error-free outputs Commitment to building and maintaining professional and cordial relationships with team members and customers Ability to work independently, prioritize execution of tasks, and manage time efficiently Ability to adapt to new technologies and software Strong verbal and written communication skills Additional Detail: This is a full-time (25-40 hours/week, depending on season), hourly, exempt role This role is subject to an in-person work schedule This team member reports directly to the owners of the Garden District Bookshop Physical Demands: Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time Heavy Carrying: Frequently physically transporting items weighing up to 35 pounds from one location to another The Garden District Book Shop is committed to providing benefits for full-time employees including access to medical insurance plans and paid personal leave.
