SchemmerCIVIL ENGINEERING INTERN – TRANSPORTATION We have a Summer 2027 opportunity in our Omaha office for a Civil Engineering Intern focused on transportation engineering projects. The right candidate will have completed at least their second year in a Civil Engineering program and be interested in supporting design teams on roadway, traffic, multimodal, municipal, and infrastructure improvement projects. Qualifications Minimum 2+ years of satisfactory progress toward a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; completion of 3 years toward degree preferred. Minimum GPA: 3.0 preferred. Interest in transportation engineering design, including roadway geometry, traffic analysis, multimodal facilities, drainage, signing and pavement markings, accessibility, and construction plan preparation. Coursework or project experience in transportation engineering, highway or roadway design, traffic engineering, surveying, hydrology/hydraulics, construction materials, or infrastructure planning preferred. Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley roadway design software preferred; experience with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, GIS, traffic analysis or modeling software, or other transportation design tools is a plus. Solid written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document design decisions, ask thoughtful questions, and coordinate with team members. Classes or experience with presentations, technical writing, field data collection, or construction observation are a plus. Personal Qualities: Ability to interact professionally with engineers, designers, clients, contractors, reviewers, and other project stakeholders. Able to work in a collaborative design process and contribute to multiple project tasks, deadlines, and team priorities. Curious, dependable, and detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous learning in transportation engineering design.
