Intermodal Dispatcher

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Intermodal Dispatcher to coordinate and manage the seamless movement of freight across multiple transportation modes, primarily focusing on intermodal rail and road transportation. In this role, you will be the central hub for scheduling, communication, and problem-solving to ensure timely deliveries and optimal fleet utilization. Responsibilities Coordinate the scheduling and dispatching of freight shipments via intermodal rail and truck, ensuring adherence to delivery timelines and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations. Utilize transportation management systems to track shipments, update statuses, and maintain accurate data entry records. Communicate effectively with drivers, carriers, warehouse teams, and customers through internal communication platforms, and phone call management to provide updates and resolve issues promptly. Monitor GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools for real-time tracking of vehicles and freight movement, adjusting plans as needed for delays or disruptions. Manage shipping & receiving schedules, freight documentation, and compliance with safety standards while maintaining organized records for audits and reporting. Analyze logistics data to identify opportunities for process improvement in transportation planning, fleet management, and road transportation operations. Ensure proper vehicle dispatching by coordinating with fleet management teams using vehicle dispatch software while adhering to DOT regulations for driver hours of service. Qualifications Proven experience in transportation planning or logistics coordination Strong knowledge of road transportation operations, freight management, and intermodal logistics processes. Proficiency with transportation management systems Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced setting. Effective communication skills for phone call management, internal communication, customer service interactions, and team collaboration. Familiarity with GIS, GPS tracking tools, shipping & receiving procedures, and DOT regulations is highly desirable. Competency in data entry using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) along with typing skills for quick documentation. Ability to analyze complex data sets to optimize dispatching strategies and improve overall logistics performance.
