Intermediate Designer / Project Coordinator – Interior Design
Wiklém Design inc.About the Role The Wiklém Group is looking for an experienced Intermediate Designer / Project Coordinator who is ready to take greater ownership of projects. We are an award-winning Toronto Interior Design and Design+BUILD firm specializing in condominium common-area refurbishment throughout the GTA. Our projects range from targeted upgrades to major multi-million-dollar renovations. Our designers are involved throughout the entire project — from concept development and client presentations through budgeting, documentation, procurement, construction, site coordination, troubleshooting, and final completion. This role is well suited to someone with approximately 5+ years of experience who is ready for broader responsibility and more direct involvement with clients, contractors, budgets, and construction. We are looking for someone who sees the big picture, thinks ahead, is curious and solution-driven, makes sound decisions, and keeps things moving. What You’ll Do You will manage and coordinate projects while working closely with our Creative Director and our Interior Design and Design+BUILD teams. Responsibilities include: Develop design concepts and carry them through design development and implementation. Work directly with clients to understand project objectives, priorities, budgets, and site requirements. Prepare and confidently present concepts, finishes, materials, and design recommendations. Establish and manage project deliverables, priorities, meetings, and milestones. Coordinate drawings, specifications, finish schedules, presentations, and other project documentation. Direct and review work completed by junior designers. Specify furniture, art, and accessories. Prepare furniture and accessory budgets, specifications, and purchasing documentation. Coordinate procurement, ordering, delivery, installation, and styling of furniture, art, and accessories. Work closely with contractors, trades, suppliers, architects, engineers, and other consultants. Participate in preliminary budgeting, pricing reviews, tendering, bid analysis, and value engineering. Consider cost and constructability throughout the design process. Attend client, contractor, and site meetings. Resolve design, material, installation, and site issues. Review construction progress and participate in deficiency walkthroughs and project closeout. Identify potential problems early and bring forward practical recommendations and solutions. Participate in client presentations and selected new-business opportunities. What We’re Looking For Ideally, you are someone who: Has approximately 5+ years of professional interior design experience. Has experience taking projects from concept through documentation and construction. Has strong design instincts and sound aesthetic judgment. Is confident working directly with clients and presenting design ideas. Is comfortable working with contractors and trades and understands how design decisions translate into construction. Understands budgets and the cost implications of design decisions. Has experience specifying and procuring furniture, art, and accessories. Is highly organized and able to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Is comfortable making decisions within your area of responsibility. Takes ownership and brings forward solutions rather than waiting for direction. Communicates clearly, respectfully, and professionally. Works well with people at different levels of experience. Is interested in mentoring and supporting junior designers. Is collaborative, curious, resourceful, and comfortable drawing on the expertise of others. Wants broader project responsibility and direct client exposure. Experience in multifamily residential, condominium, hospitality, retirement/seniors living, or Design+BUILD would be particularly relevant.
