Job Title: Heating/Ventilation and Fleet Service Technician Department: Facilities & Auxiliary Services Reports To: Utilities Supervisor FTE: 1.00 Job Summary Responsible for preventive and routine maintenance, repair, alteration, installation, and improvement of the University heating and ventilation systems, subsystems, controls, and fleet service. Key Responsibilities HVAC Responsibilities Contribute to the development of a preventive maintenance program for heating and ventilation systems. Perform jobs from start to finish, including material selection, ordering, setup, testing, quality assurance, and cleanup. Track labor hours, materials, and equipment. Perform preventive quality assurance inspections per routine maintenance procedures. Inspect and service filters, belts, and control devices; report unusual issues. Follow manufacturer cleaning instructions and ensure corrosion control. Perform scheduled cleaning of air grilles and ducts. Evaluate HVAC system operation and troubleshoot problems. Repair plumbing leaks and perform duct and sheet metal repairs. Participate in the asbestos abatement program. Repair motors, dampers, braces, control motors, and attachments. Rebuild actuator motors, control valves, and steam and water valves. Perform minor refrigerant system repairs, including evacuation and recharging. Measure air velocity and balance systems; update balance reports. Adjust motors and fans for optimum performance. Install new equipment, ductwork, and controls per specifications. Fleet Services Responsibilities Diagnose, service, maintain, and repair University vehicles and equipment. Perform diagnostic and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment. Demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills using proper tools. Respond to emergency system problems and take appropriate action. Prioritize work and maintain communication with supervisors. Maintain clean and hazard-free work areas. Occasionally operate heavy equipment and forklifts. Maintain parts, supplies, tools, and requisitions. Assemble and install new equipment. Knowledge and Experience Education High school diploma or equivalent. Active refrigeration license or ability to obtain within six months. Journey-level HVAC and control maintenance experience. Valid Oregon driver’s license. Experience Five years of HVAC and control maintenance and repair experience. Three years of refrigeration repair experience. Experience using trade hand tools and test equipment. Experience with boilers and plant equipment preferred. Ability to read blueprints and specification drawings. Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision. Ability to complete paperwork and organize work orders. Physical Requirements Work is performed indoors and outdoors, frequently in confined spaces, and may require a fitted respirator. Requires constant hearing, seeing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds. Includes exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, weather conditions, and chemicals.
