Position Overview
The Hub Operations Manager is fully responsible for end-to-end operations of the distribution hub, covering Inbound, Sortation, and Outbound processes. The role oversees a high-intensity, three-shift operational model and manages a workforce of 100+ employees, including both full-time and outsourced staff. Key responsibilities include workforce planning, shift management, hiring and training, cross-hub coordination, quality control, and continuous process optimization to ensure accurate, efficient, and on-time parcel processing.
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Hub Operations (Inbound / Sortation / Outbound)
Lead all inbound processes including trailer arrival, unloading, scanning, reconciliation, and exception handling.
Manage outbound operations including sorting, bagging, loading, dispatching, and line-haul departure monitoring.
Oversee the full sortation workflow to ensure quality, accuracy, and on-time performance.
Adjust manpower and workflows dynamically based on daily volume fluctuations.
2. Shift & Workforce Management (Three-Shift Model)
Manage three-shift operations and a 100+ person workforce (internal + outsourced).
Oversee shift scheduling, attendance, performance management, labor forecasting, and team assignments.
Partner with labor vendors to ensure stable and adequate staffing.
3. Floor Operations & Execution
Ensure strict execution of SOPs across inbound docks, sortation lines, conveyors, and outbound docks.
Maintain 5S, safety standards, and equipment usage protocols.
Resolve on-site exceptions, congestion, and safety risks promptly to ensure business continuity.
4. Hiring, Training & Team Development
Support recruitment to ensure adequate staffing across inbound, sorting, and outbound roles.
Organize onboarding, job-specific training, and safety training.
Build a high-execution team and elevate the leadership skills of supervisors and shift leads.
5. Quality Management & Process Improvement
Monitor and reduce mis-sorts, delays, damages, inbound discrepancies, and missing items.
Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Drive process optimization and cost reduction using KPIs, productivity metrics, and forecast data.
6. Cross-Hub & Cross-Functional Coordination
Coordinate overflow handling, inter-hub support, and resource allocation.
Work closely with transportation teams on inbound/outbound scheduling.
Partner with Customer Service and Regional Operations on issue resolution and service improvements.
7. Safety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA and company safety standards across all operational areas.
Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and follow-up corrective actions.
Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks.
Qualifications
Experience
3-5+ years of experience in logistics, warehousing, distribution hub, or fulfillment center management.
Experience managing large teams (100+ including outsourced labor).
Background in high-volume inbound/outbound dock operations or sortation preferred.
Skills & Capabilities
Strong execution ability, resilience, and fast decision-making in a live operations environment.
Excellent communication skills and cross-team collaboration.
Data-driven mindset with experience using KPIs to drive improvements.
Ability to work night shifts, weekends, or rotating schedules.
Nice-to-Have
Experience in last-mile delivery, line-haul transportation, or automated sortation systems.
Familiarity with WMS/TMS, scanning devices, or sortation technologies.
OSHA safety training or related certifications.
