Olathe has grown from a county seat into one of the largest suburbs in the Kansas City area, and much of what has sprung up around it is freight. The I-35 corridor running southwest through Lenexa, Olathe, Gardner and Edgerton is lined with distribution buildings, and the BNSF intermodal yard at Edgerton sits only a few exits down the road. en Olathe and Gardner, is now an industrial park of its own. Construction is the other big story. Johnson County keeps adding houses, schools and commercial space, and that keeps steel, lumber and rental equipment rolling through. For a local hotshot driver, I-35 is the main artery: south through Ottawa and Emporia toward Wichita and Oklahoma, north into the metro core to pick up I-70 or I-29. K-10 cuts west to Lawrence, and US-169 heads south toward Paola and the southeast corner of the state. Plan around the morning and evening rush on I-35 and I-435; an early departure spares you a lot of sitting. You'll run about a month at a stretch and then take a week off, and since so much freight is concentrated around Olathe, finishing near your own driveway tends to work out. Your earnings track the gross of every load you haul. Fill in the form at the bottom of the page to get the ball rolling. Pay is a percentage of gross, not a per-mile rate; active drivers average $9,000 weekly gross. No CDL is needed for the pickup position, and the company provides the truck.
