Wyoming has the fewest people of any state and some of the biggest freight generators in the West. The Powder River Basin around Gillette mines more coal than anywhere else in the country, oil and gas rigs work the basin south toward Douglas and Casper, and the southwest corner produces natural gas from the Pinedale and Jonah fields along with trona, the ore behind soda ash, near Green River. and transmission projects in Carbon County have added another layer of construction freight on top of all that. Three interstates carry it. I-80 crosses the southern edge from Cheyenne to Evanston and serves as one of the main transcontinental truck routes in the country. I-25 comes north from Denver through Cheyenne and Casper to Buffalo, and I-90 swings through Sheridan and Gillette on its way to the Black Hills. Between them, a pickup and gooseneck haul drilling parts, pumps, pipe, mine equipment and gear for wind sites across long, empty distances. Wind is the hazard everyone talks about: WYDOT regularly closes I-80 to light, high-profile vehicles between Laramie and Rawlins, and an empty trailer catches gusts badly. Winter closures on the Summit and at Elk Mountain can last a day or more. Being based here suits a driver who doesn't mind distance. The schedule is four weeks on the road, one week off, with freight that takes you well past the state line in every direction. Plan for the trip home to start a day earlier than it would elsewhere, since the last stretch is often hundreds of miles of open highway. Send an application through the form below. Pay is a percentage of gross, not a per-mile rate; active drivers average $9,000 weekly gross. No CDL is needed for the pickup position, and the company provides the truck.
