SUMMARY The Heavy Industrial Material Handler is responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, transporting, positioning, staging, and securing of heavy steel weldments, filter press components, machinery, raw materials, and other industrial equipment throughout the company's manufacturing and shipping operations. This position operates a variety of heavy material-handling equipment and works closely with Production, Shipping & Receiving, Inventory Controls, Quality, and Project Management to ensure material and finished equipment are moved safely and efficiently. The position may involve handling individual weldments and equipment weighing up to approximately 100,000 pounds . Because of the size and weight of the materials involved, this position requires a strong understanding of safe load handling, rigging principles, equipment limitations, load stability, and workplace safety. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other heavy equipment to move steel weldments, filter presses, components, and other materials throughout the facility and yard. Load and unload heavy steel weldments, equipment, and materials from trucks, trailers, and shipping containers. Move completed weldments between fabrication, painting, assembly, inspection, and staging areas as needed. Position large weldments and equipment accurately for Production, Quality, Shipping, and other departments. Assist with loading finished equipment and weldments for customer shipments, including flatbed and specialty transportation. Select and use the appropriate slings, chains, shackles, spreader bars, and other lifting equipment for each job. Inspect lifting equipment, rigging, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment before use and report any problems. Secure materials and equipment for transportation using appropriate chains, straps, blocking, and other methods. Work with Production and Materials personnel to prioritize and coordinate movement of materials based on current production needs. Receive incoming steel, components, and other materials and move them to their designated storage or production locations. Maintain organized material staging areas and ensure materials are stored in their designated locations. Assist Shipping/Receiving with preparing orders, equipment, and materials for shipment. Verify material identification, job numbers, and shipping information when moving or staging materials. Maintain clean and safe travel paths, loading areas, and equipment operating areas. Perform routine equipment and material-handling duties as assigned to support the overall operations of the Materials and Production departments. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Assist with coordination of incoming and outgoing package and LTL shipments as necessary. Physical and electronic receipt of incoming materials. Confirm incoming material shipments match purchase orders. Assist with managing physical inventory levels of items on blanket orders. Assist with performing periodic and annual inventory counts.
