Job Title: Heavy Haul Permit Specialist Company: Paul Logistics | Paul Transportation Location: Houston, TX Job Type : Full-Time Schedule: Monday to Friday (standard daytime hours) Salary: $70,000-80,000 About the Position Paul is looking for an experienced Heavy Haul Permit Specialist to support the continued growth of our Heavy Haul and Specialized Cargo division. This position will work across both our asset-based Heavy Haul fleet and Logistics/brokerage operation, helping plan and execute oversize, overweight, over-dimensional, and superload shipments throughout the United States. This is not a traditional dispatcher position. We need someone who understands heavy haul, can look at the dimensions and weight of a shipment and help determine what it will take to move it safely and legally, and can work through permitting, routing, equipment, escorts, and the other details that come with specialized transportation. Responsibilities Plan and coordinate OS/OW and superload shipments from initial planning through delivery. Obtain and manage state and local permits for single-state and multi-state moves. Review permits for routing, travel restrictions, escort requirements, curfews, and other conditions. Calculate and verify overall loaded height, width, length, gross weight, axle weights, and axle spacing. Assist with determining appropriate equipment configurations based on cargo dimensions and weight. Coordinate pilot cars, height poles, police escorts, route surveys, utility involvement, and other third-party services when required. Work directly with drivers, carriers, operations, customers, permit agencies, and state/local authorities. Dispatch and monitor Paul Heavy Haul assets while also supporting specialized shipments moving through Paul Logistics. Track shipments and proactively communicate delays, restrictions, route changes, or other issues. Review customer drawings and shipment information to identify potential transportation concerns before the load moves. Maintain accurate records of permits, routes, escort requirements, costs, and shipment documentation. Help the Heavy Haul team evaluate opportunities during the quoting and planning process, not just after a shipment has been awarded. Ensure specialized shipments are executed safely, legally, and in accordance with DOT requirements and company standards. What We're Looking For 2+ years of OS/OW permitting and/or heavy haul dispatch experience strongly preferred. Working knowledge of state-specific oversize/overweight regulations and permitting processes. Experience dispatching specialized trailers such as RGNs, lowboys, multi-axle configurations, stretch trailers, jeeps, and boosters is highly preferred. Ability to understand axle configurations, loaded dimensions, permit requirements, and route restrictions. Experience with permitting and routing systems and transportation management systems. Strong attention to detail. In Heavy Haul, inches and pounds matter. Ability to manage multiple complicated shipments and make decisions quickly when plans change. Strong communication skills with drivers, customers, carriers, government agencies, and internal teams. Comfortable working in an environment where every shipment may require a different solution. High school diploma or GED required; transportation/logistics education is a plus but real Heavy Haul experience matters most. Why Paul? This position is joining a Heavy Haul operation that we are actively investing in and growing. Paul brings together an established Heavy Haul asset fleet and a nationwide Logistics carrier network, giving our team the ability to find the right solution for specialized freight rather than being limited to one type of equipment or capacity. We're looking for someone who wants to help us build that operation—not simply sit behind a desk and pull permits. If you understand Heavy Haul, enjoy solving difficult transportation problems, and know that “we've moved something similar b…
