Barr-Tech CompostSERIOUS EQUIPMENT | HEATED & COOLED SHOP | M-F DAY SHIFT | YEAR-ROUND WORK Barr-Tech Compost - Near Sprague, Washington Barr-Tech Compost is Eastern Washington's largest composting facility and is entering a major growth and facility expansion phase. As processing volume increases significantly, we will be adding equipment and quality personnel to support that growth. We are hiring a Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Diesel Technician to help maintain a diverse fleet of large mobile equipment and compost processing machinery. Most repairs are completed in our heated and cooled shop, with onsite yard repairs performed as equipment needs require. This is stable, year-round work at one facility - not a traveling field-service or seasonal construction job. Equipment You Will Work On CAT 966 and 972 wheel loaders Rotochopper B-66T and B-66L horizontal grinders CAT 320 excavator Trommel screens, conveyors, and other compost-processing equipment Rolling stock and other facility equipment What You Will Do Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, cooling systems, air systems, drivetrains, and related components. Troubleshoot equipment failures, identify root causes, and complete safe, reliable repairs. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled repairs. Respond to breakdowns and help minimize production downtime. Work with operators and supervisors to identify equipment issues and coordinate repair priorities. Document repairs, preventive maintenance, parts usage, and equipment condition. Follow shop and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), and keep the work area safe and organized. Who We Are Looking For Preferred: Approximately 10+ years of experience in heavy equipment, diesel, construction, agriculture, industrial equipment, fleet maintenance, or a related field, with strong diagnostic skills in diesel, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Also considered: A mechanically talented, dependable, curious, and motivated person with less experience who wants to learn. Barr-Tech is willing to provide on-the-job training and experience to the right person who takes ownership, asks questions, and wants to understand why equipment failed - not just replace parts. Able to diagnose problems and work independently while also supporting the team. Dependable, safety-focused, organized, and willing to take ownership of repairs. Welding and fabrication experience is a plus. Tools Mechanics provide their own standard hand tools and customary mechanic tools needed for normal duties. Barr-Tech provides specialty tools and diagnostic equipment as needed. Pay & Benefits $30-$45 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability. 401(k) with 4% company match. Schedule & Work Environment Full-time, Monday-Friday day shift; generally 8-10 hour shifts. Rare emergency repairs may require help outside normal Monday-Friday hours to keep production operating. This happens infrequently, but occasionally the operation may need all hands on deck. Most work is performed in our heated and cooled shop; onsite yard repairs are performed as equipment needs require. Applicants must be able to commute reliably to the facility.
