Location: Superior, Wisconsin Employment Type: Full-Time Benefits: Benefits Eligible Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team at a metals recycling facility in Superior, WI. This position is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing a variety of heavy equipment, diesel-powered vehicles, trucks, trailers, and recycling equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background and hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, semi-trucks, trailers, welding, and fabrication. This is a hands-on position in an industrial environment where the ability to troubleshoot problems and keep equipment operating safely and efficiently is essential. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty diesel engines and equipment. Troubleshoot and repair diesel fuel, cooling, exhaust, and engine systems. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, and hydraulic components. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, wiring, starters, alternators, batteries, lighting, and electrical controls. Perform maintenance and repairs on semi-trucks, trailers, and trailer systems. Inspect, repair, and replace brakes, suspension, steering, and related components. Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on company equipment and vehicles. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repair procedures. Perform welding, cutting, and metal fabrication as needed for equipment repairs and modifications. Repair, modify, and fabricate equipment, guards, brackets, and other components. Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, parts, and equipment condition. Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform timely repairs to minimize downtime. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Assist with maintaining a safe and efficient metals recycling operation. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience Previous experience as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or similar role. Strong knowledge of diesel engine repair and troubleshooting. Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems. Experience working on heavy trucks, semi-trailers, and trailer systems. Knowledge of brake, suspension, steering, and other heavy-duty vehicle systems. Welding and metal fabrication experience. Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, schematics, and service information. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs based on safety and operational needs. Valid driver's license required. CDL is a plus. Welding certifications or formal diesel/heavy equipment training are a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver heavy tools and equipment. Ability to work on and around heavy machinery and vehicles. Ability to climb, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, and work in awkward positions. Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions when necessary. Ability to safely operate shop equipment, power tools, welding equipment, and other mechanical tools. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Work Environment This position works primarily in a heavy industrial metals recycling environment and maintenance warehouse/shop. The mechanic may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, oils, outdoor weather conditions, heavy equipment, moving machinery, and other industrial conditions. Safety is a priority, and proper PPE and safe work practices are required.
