JAX TRUCK WORKS COMPANYNOW HIRING – HEAVY-DUTY DIESEL MECHANIC / ENGINE OVERHAUL SPECIALIST Location: Jacksonville, FL Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience Job Description JAX Truck Works Company is seeking an experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic specializing in diesel engine overhauls, rebuilds, major engine repairs, and diagnostics. We are looking for a highly skilled technician who can independently diagnose, disassemble, inspect, rebuild, and reassemble heavy-duty diesel engines according to manufacturer specifications. Key Responsibilities Perform complete in-frame and out-of-frame diesel engine overhauls. Rebuild Cummins ISX, X15, Detroit Diesel DD13/DD15/DD16, PACCAR MX-13, Volvo D13, and other heavy-duty diesel engines. Diagnose internal engine failures, including low compression, excessive blow-by, oil consumption, coolant contamination, and bearing failures. Remove, disassemble, inspect, and reinstall diesel engines. Replace cylinder liners, pistons, piston rings, connecting rods, bearings, and crankshafts. Inspect and repair cylinder heads, valves, camshafts, and valve train components. Measure engine components using precision measuring tools and verify manufacturer tolerances. Perform cylinder head gasket replacements, timing repairs, and valve adjustments. Diagnose and repair fuel injection systems, turbochargers, oil pumps, and cooling systems. Perform engine timing, overhead adjustments, and engine calibration procedures. Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and electronic engine management problems. Use OEM diagnostic software and service manuals. Follow manufacturer torque specifications, assembly procedures, and quality standards. Perform engine startup procedures, oil pressure verification, leak inspections, and post-repair testing. Document all repairs, measurements, findings, and additional repair recommendations. Assist with general heavy-duty truck repairs, including transmissions, clutches, brakes, suspension, and emissions systems when needed. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty diesel engine repair experience preferred. Proven experience performing complete diesel engine overhauls independently. Strong knowledge of Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, and Volvo engines. Experience using micrometers, dial bore gauges, torque wrenches, and precision measuring equipment. Ability to read technical manuals, engine specifications, and diagnostic reports. Experience with computerized diesel engine diagnostics. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Must own professional mechanic tools. Valid driver's license required. Must be dependable, organized, and capable of completing jobs efficiently. The right candidate must understand proper engine disassembly, failure analysis, component inspection, precision measurements, engine assembly, and final testing.
