POSITION OVERVIEW

The Head of Operations is responsible for driving organizational strategy and leading core operational functions, including Facilities, Information Technology (IT), and Human Resources. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this role has significant cross-agency impact and requires both strategic vision and operational excellence.


This leader will oversee and strengthen internal systems, processes, compliance, and infrastructure to support organizational effectiveness and long-term growth. The Head of Operations will play a critical role in aligning resources, building organizational capacity, and ensuring that the agency is equipped to achieve its ambitious goals.

Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

Strategy and Thought Leadership 

  • Partner with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to shape and advance the organization’s strategic priorities and overall direction.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across human resources, operations, facilities, and compliance functions.
  • Serve as a key advisor on internal policies, systems, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture that reflects the organization’s values and deep commitment to racial equity and justice.

Operations and Outcomes 

  • Lead and strengthen human resources functions, including talent acquisition, onboarding, training, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Design and implement policies, procedures, and systems aligned with operational best practices.
  • Drive initiatives related to organizational development, leadership development, and performance management.
  • Partner on budgeting processes, ensuring alignment between financial planning and strategic priorities.
  • Enhance internal communication systems to promote transparency, alignment, and staff engagement.
  • Plan and execute annual staff retreats to support organizational cohesion and goal alignment.
  • Oversee facilities and asset management, including property maintenance, utilization, leasing, and vendor relationships.
  • Lead organizational technology strategy, including systems selection, implementation, utilization, and governance.
  • Manage a portfolio of cross-functional and high-priority strategic projects.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support organizational success.

People and Community Development 

  • Build strong relationships across teams, departments, and community partners.
  • Inspire and motivate staff while modeling organizational values and culture.
  • Lead and develop teams, fostering accountability, engagement, and high performance.
  • Lead and motivate an Impact Area or departmental team.

 

Financial Management

  • Oversee budgets for complex functions, programs, or multiple cost centers.
  • Support fundraising efforts by stewarding funder relationships and contributing to revenue development strategies.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and support proposal development.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in operations, human resources, or organizational management.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain positive, productive relationships with diverse communities.
  • Experience working in and supporting low-income and culturally diverse communities.
  • High level of professionalism, ethical judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and accountability skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
