Hazmat CDL Driver — Explosives Transport
ConfidentialTHE MISSION Astra Core-X (ACX) is developing affordable and capable combined ramjet/rocket technology for the defense of the United States and our allies. We're rapidly bringing this capability to market by pairing the latest manufacturing processes and technology with solid financial backing and the guidance of world-class industry experts and research institutions. Over the past year ACX has grown from a founding team into a roughly 40-person organization standing up its own development production capability out of Broomfield, Colorado and a production/test site in Chugwater, Wyoming. We're mid-build on a production facility and targeting a working pilot line within the next year. At this size, every hire directly shapes how the company runs. Our work exists to make American service members and allied forces safer. We're glad to have teammates who've carried that mission in uniform, and we welcome veterans and transitioning service members to apply. THE ROLE We move Division 1.1 explosives, propellant ingredients, and other placarded hazmat between our Broomfield facility, our suppliers, and our Chugwater, Wyoming test site, roughly 140 miles each way. We need one person who owns that from start to finish. You'll be our qualified explosives driver: planning the route, building the paperwork, loading and securing the vehicle, attending the load, and making the call when a load shouldn't go. You'll also be our primary point of receipt for energetic materials when they arrive, which means signing for them, completing the ATF records, and keeping magazine counts right. When you're not on the road, you'll help the materials team with receiving, inventory, and internal deliveries in Broomfield. We want someone who has hauled Class 1 before, or has years of placarded hazmat hauling and wants to step into explosives. You'll help build our transportation program, not just follow it. As we scale, this role can grow into a transportation compliance lead. We're deliberately small and deliberately fast, and we equip every team — not just engineering — with modern software and AI-assisted tools so a lean group can run like a much bigger one. WHAT YOU'LL DO Transport Division 1.1 explosives and other placarded hazmat between our sites and suppliers in a company vehicle, meeting DOT requirements for shipping papers, placarding, segregation, securement, routing, and attendance. Plan each run: confirm loads and compatibility, select approved routes, check weather and road conditions, and coordinate timing with the shipping and receiving sites. Run pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, keep emergency response equipment and SDS on board, and maintain trip, inspection, and vehicle records. Receive incoming energetic materials: verify against shipping papers and purchase orders, inspect, and complete ATF acquisition records before material goes into storage. Keep explosives accountability records, daily magazine summaries, and physical counts accurate and ready for an ATF compliance inspection. Help build our hazmat transportation program with EHS and the Supply Chain Lead, including the security plan, route plans, training records, and driver qualification files. When not driving, support receiving, cycle counts, kitting, and internal deliveries for non-energetic materials. Exercise stop-work authority when something isn't right, follow incident and spill procedures, and escalate immediately. WHAT YOU'LL BRING Valid CDL (Class A, B, or C) with hazmat (H) endorsement, a current TSA security threat assessment, DOT medical card, and a clean driving record. 3+ years hauling placarded hazardous materials. Class 1 explosives experience is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of DOT hazardous materials regulations (49 CFR Parts 171–180 and 397), with current hazmat training. Comfort driving long highway stretches on a schedule in all seasons, including Wyoming winter conditions. Eligibility to be approved by ATF as an employee poss…
