Description The Last Mile is where Amazon’s global fulfillment network meets the customer’s doorstep. As part of this mission-critical team, you will help redefine the speed and precision of our delivery operations, building the technologies that move millions of packages daily. We are looking for creative software engineers who thrive on complex, high-stakes challenges and are ready to innovate within our Last Mile Technology (LMT) and Station Tech organizations. In this role, you won’t just write code; you will be the architect of solutions that empower our "on-ground rockstars"—the associates, managers, and drivers who navigate the final stretch of the delivery journey. Your work will scale across Amazon Logistics (AMZL) and Global Specialty Fulfillment (GSF), focusing on reducing cognitive load and eliminating decision points through automation. By building tools that prioritize high-impact tasks and correct operational defects in real-time, you ensure we consistently meet our customer SLAs despite the growing complexity of our network. As a successful candidate, you will own the entire hardware development lifecycle—from design and documentation to deployment and operations. You will have the autonomy to build optimized systems that drive site throughput and operational quality on a global scale. If you are a self-driven engineer who relishes the challenge of operating mission-critical systems in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, come join us. It is still Day 1 in Last Mile, and we are ready to work hard, have fun, and make history. Key job responsibilities Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, and control systems Partner with in-house designers to meet product aesthetic and cosmetic requirements Design parts for machining, casting, 3D printing, and other manufacturing processes Work with suppliers and manufacturers worldwide to source components, manage production timelines, and maintain quality standards Perform life-cycle testing, quality assurance, and failure analysis to validate designs and ensure product reliability Oversee the transition of designs from prototype to mass production, including working directly with manufacturing partners globally Maintain detailed design documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and test data A day in the life Every year, we set ambitious goals, translated into quarterly plans and executed through methodical sprints. We start each day with a standup to track progress, remove blockers, and coordinate as a team. The rest of the day is reserved for deep work: dedicated time for design, documentation, and development. While you own your projects end-to-end, you’ll regularly engage in design and code reviews to sharpen our collective output. Depending on the project stage, you may also conduct onsite testing at our Last Mile Stations, ensuring our customers are fully equipped to operate and maintain the solutions we engineer. About The Team The Under-The-Roof (UTR) Automation team is part of Amazon's Last Mile organization, and we're on a mission to build the next generation of automation for micro fulfillment and delivery hubs around the world — technology that works seamlessly in fast-moving environments, feels invisible to the people using it, and leaves little room for error. Delivery is changing fast, and as more people deliver packages to more places than ever before, we're laying the architectural foundation that will power it all for years to come. If you love hard problems and want your work to make a real difference, we'd love to have you on this journey with us. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience Experience with prototyping and implementation Experience using one or more of the following CAD technologies: AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, BIM360, SketchUp or KeyShot Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design Experience communicating technical con…
