Description

Purpose: To assist the Grocery Buyer in providing a fully stocked and well-merchandised Grocery Department.


Status: Reports to Grocery Manager

Pay Level 3


Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

  • Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner, referring to other staff when necessary.
  • Offer suggestions for purchase and ways to prepare products.

Department Maintenance:

  • Daily replenishment ordering, following established procedures to ensure a regular supply of product.
  • Communicate with managers, buyers, and receivers about upcoming orders, out-of-stock items and other product issues.
  • Maintain favorable relations with all vendors.
  • Ensure accurate pricing and shelf tags throughout the department.
  • Assist with customer special orders.
  • Inform Grocery Buyer of slow-moving products and repeated customer requests.
  • Assist in resets and quarterly inventory counts.
  • Advise Grocery Manager of equipment problems or needs.
  • Be responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment, reporting safety concerns to a manager or member of the Safety Committee, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Follow department policies and procedures.

Stocking:

  • Stock displays, shelves, bins, coolers, and freezers fully without overcrowding; front and face items on shelf.
  • Rotate older stock to the front, making room for new stock; organize back stock.
  • Pull short date or low-quality items.
  • Prioritize daily stocking lists and communicate with grocery stockers.
  • Perform additional stocking, cleaning and other duties throughout grocery department, as needed.

  • Ability to be physically present onsite at the Co-op to perform the requirements of this position.

Desired:

  • Experience purchasing retail natural food products.
  • Knowledge of trends in natural food industry.
