Gravel Train Driver – CDL Class A Doubles Location: Grinnell / Detroit, MI Employment Type: Full-time, year-round Pay: $28.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience Expected Hours: Approximately 55 hours per week, with overtime available Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday; Saturday work is mandatory when required Peterson Brothers is seeking to hire two experienced Gravel Train Drivers to join our high-volume trucking and hauling operation. This is a full-time, year-round position for dependable CDL drivers who can safely and efficiently haul aggregate materials throughout the Detroit-area market. We are looking for self-starting individuals with a strong work ethic, safe driving record, professional attitude, and experience operating Class A doubles. Drivers must be comfortable working in a fast-paced construction and material-hauling environment while representing Peterson Brothers professionally at job sites, pits, plants, and customer locations. Responsibilities Safely operate a Class A gravel train with doubles endorsement in accordance with all federal, state, local, and company safety requirements. Haul gravel, sand, stone, aggregate, dirt, demolition material, and other construction-related materials as assigned. Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report mechanical, safety, or maintenance concerns promptly. Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, including hours-of-service requirements, vehicle inspections, load requirements, and required documentation. Safely load, transport, and unload materials at construction sites, pits, plants, disposal facilities, and customer locations. Inspect loads and equipment to ensure material is secured and trucks are operated within legal weight limits. Keep the truck, trailer, and work area clean, organized, and professionally maintained. Communicate effectively with dispatch, foremen, equipment operators, customers, and plant personnel. Follow job-site safety rules and safely maneuver in active construction zones, aggregate yards, and high-traffic work areas. Work additional hours and Saturdays when business needs require it. Qualifications Valid, unrestricted CDL Class A license with a doubles endorsement required. Valid DOT Medical Card required. Minimum of three years of commercial driving experience required. Previous gravel train, aggregate hauling, dump trailer, construction trucking, or heavy-haul experience strongly preferred. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and DOT physical. Strong understanding of DOT regulations, daily vehicle inspections, safe loading practices, and commercial-driving safety procedures. Good driving record and commitment to safe, professional operation. Dependable attendance and willingness to work overtime and mandatory Saturdays when needed. Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work independently. Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around active construction, trucking, and aggregate operations. Compensation & Benefits $28.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience. Full-time, year-round work. Approximately 55 hours per week, with expected overtime.
