General Manager – Trucking

UE Line Inc. | Elgin, IL | On-Site We are an established OTR trucking company operating a fleet of more than 200 trucks. We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our Elgin office and oversee all driver-related operations. The General Manager is responsible for the daily operations, staff and overall performance of the Elgin office, and reports directly to ownership. The role works closely with the shop and operations team. A primary focus of this position is driver management. The General Manager serves as the company’s in-person point of contact for drivers and is responsible for resolving difficult situations, enforcing company policy, maintaining accountability, and retaining qualified drivers. This position carries full authority over driver employment decisions, including retention and termination. Key Responsibilities Direct the day-to-day operations of the Elgin office Supervise office staff and ensure effective coordination between departments Monitor performance and present recommendations for improvement to ownership Develop, implement and enforce company policies and procedures Coordinate with the shop and operations team on all matters involving drivers and equipment Maintain a daily on-site presence at the office and yard Driver Accountability & Problem Resolution Conduct in-person meetings with drivers who have performance, safety, conduct or policy concerns. All such drivers will report directly to the yard to meet with the General Manager. Investigate issues thoroughly and enforce company rules consistently Make final determinations on driver retention or termination Maintain complete documentation of all meetings, warnings and outcomes Driver Retention & Communication Maintain daily contact with drivers to address concerns and support retention Conduct retention calls and coaching sessions Identify the causes of driver dissatisfaction and turnover, and take corrective action Orientation & Retraining Conduct orientation for new drivers covering company policies, safety standards, equipment and expectations Provide retraining for drivers who require improvement Evaluate post-training performance to confirm results Qualifications Safety or operations management experience in the trucking industry Proven experience managing drivers in a role such as driver manager, fleet manager or terminal manager Thorough understanding of common driver issues, including home time, pay disputes, roadside breakdowns, late loads and driver burnout Demonstrated success in driver retention Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) and ELD systems Strong, confident communication skills, with the ability to conduct difficult conversations and enforce standards Qualified candidates should submit a resume to hr@uelineinc.com with the subject line “General Manager – Elgin.” Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year Experience: Truck Driver Management: 3 years (Required) Trucking Safety/Operations Mangement: 3 years (Required) Ability to Commute: Elgin, IL 60123 (Required) Work Location: In person
