General Manager – Skylands Ice World Position Summary The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Skylands Ice World, including facility operations, staffing, ice scheduling and sales, financial performance, maintenance, cleanliness, and program development. This position provides overall leadership to arena personnel and ensures the facility operates safely, efficiently, and profitably. The General Manager will focus on operational excellence, maximizing ice utilization, driving revenue growth, maintaining facility standards, developing programming, and delivering an exceptional experience for customers, tenants, and community partners. Key Responsibilities Facility Operations & Staff Management Ensure the arena is clean, safe, well-maintained, organized, and appropriately staffed at all times. Oversee daily facility operations, including hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, and disciplining full-time and part-time employees. Maintain a visible, hands-on management presence at the facility for a minimum of 40 hours per week, including weekends, with additional hours as operational needs require. Oversee general facility maintenance and coordinate repairs, equipment needs, and preventative maintenance to support safe and reliable operations. Ensure staff adhere to established operating procedures, safety standards, and customer service expectations. Financial Performance & Business Development Maintain accountability for the arena’s financial performance, including accounts receivable, revenue generation, expense management, P&L performance, and adherence to the approved operating budget. Establish, monitor, and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to programming, revenue, ice utilization, and overall facility performance. Drive revenue across all business lines, including but not limited to Learn to Skate (LTS), Learn to Play Hockey (LTPH), contract ice, club teams, tenant rent, public skating, and adult hockey. Identify and develop new business opportunities, programs, and partnerships that increase revenue and maximize facility utilization. Oversee ice sales and scheduling to optimize available ice time while balancing customer demand, programming needs, and facility capacity. Programming & Customer Relations Oversee beginner skating, learn-to-play hockey, internal leagues, and other arena programming in collaboration with program directors. Build and maintain strong relationships with contract ice users, hockey organizations, tenants, and other facility partners. Ensure all contract ice users have current, executed agreements and that contractual obligations are consistently maintained. Promote a high standard of customer service and promptly address customer concerns to support satisfaction, retention, and long-term relationships. Administration & Financial Controls Prepare, maintain, and review operational reports, performance metrics, schedules, and other records necessary for effective facility management. Coordinate purchasing and inventory management, ensuring responsible use of materials, equipment, and supplies. Oversee banking, deposits, invoice payments, customer billing, and collections in coordination with the accounting team and Regional Director of Operations. Maintain accurate records and ensure administrative and financial processes are completed in a timely and organized manner. Communicate regularly with the Regional Director of Operations regarding facility performance, operational challenges, financial results, and business development opportunities.
