About this Role: The Gas Distribution Foreman leads a crew in the safe and efficient installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of natural gas distribution mains and services. This position oversees all aspects of the work, from planning and excavation through installation, tie-ins, pressure testing, and restoration. The Foreman ensures that safety, productivity, quality, and regulatory standards are consistently met. What You'll Do: Leadership & Crew Supervision Lead and supervise a gas distribution crew to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work. Plan daily work activities, assign tasks, and coordinate crew members and equipment. Conduct daily safety meetings (Tailboards/JSAs) and enforce all safety procedures. Provide on-the-job training and guidance to operators, skilled laborers, and laborers. Ensure all work complies with company, client, and regulatory standards. Gas Distribution Operations Oversee and perform installation of polyethylene (PE) and steel gas mains and services by open trench, boring, and other trenchless methods. Perform and direct pipe joining, including electrofusion and butt fusion, mechanical fittings, and steel welding where qualified. Perform tie-ins, service connections, cut-ins, squeeze-offs, and retirements of mains and services. Read and interpret construction plans, work orders, alignment sheets, and locate drawings to ensure accurate installation. Oversee excavation, shoring, backfill, compaction, and surface restoration. Direct and verify pressure testing, purging, and in-service procedures. Oversee installation of tracer wire, markers, and cathodic protection components as required. Respond to gas leaks, line strikes, and emergency calls as needed. Record and report as-builts, test records, and daily production. Safety & Compliance Ensure all safety policies, procedures, and DOT/PHMSA, OSHA, and client standards are followed. Perform pre-job hazard assessments and equipment inspections. Verify all utilities are properly located and exposed before excavating or boring. Prevent damage to existing utilities and infrastructure. Monitor for gas, oxygen deficiency, and other atmospheric hazards. Report incidents, near misses, damage, and equipment issues immediately. Communication & Coordination Communicate with management, inspectors, and clients regarding job status, changes, and challenges. Coordinate with locators, boring and vacuum excavation crews, and municipal and traffic control personnel. Maintain accurate and timely field documentation and production records. Represent the company professionally with customers, inspectors, and the public. What You'll Bring: Education & Experience Minimum 3–5 years of experience in gas distribution construction. At least 2 years in a foreman role preferred. Experience installing natural gas mains and services, PE. Skills & Competencies Proficient in operating and directing excavators and other heavy equipment. Strong knowledge of gas distribution construction, safe digging practices, and pipe joining. Experience with pressure testing, purging, and tie-in procedures. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, work orders, and utility maps.
