Garbage Truck Helper

Job Summary As a Garbage Truck Helper, you’ll support safe, reliable solid waste collection by assisting the driver with pickups, loading, unloading, and route navigation. You’ll work outdoors, follow established safety protocols, and help keep service moving smoothly for residential and commercial customers. This is a hands-on role involving heavy lifting and regular interaction with the public. Responsibilities Assist with loading and unloading waste and recyclables; help operate collection equipment as trained. Support route driving by watching for hazards, communicating clearly with the driver, and following traffic laws. Follow safety protocols and applicable hazardous materials regulations when handling waste. Help inspect the garbage truck and report visible mechanical concerns before or during a route. Your impact: Careful collection and courteous customer service help communities maintain clean, dependable waste services. Qualifications Ability to perform heavy lifting and outdoor work in changing weather conditions. Strong safety awareness, dependable communication, and a customer-focused approach. Relevant experience with solid waste management, delivery routes, or outdoor work is helpful. Familiarity with garbage trucks, front loader trucks, rear loader trucks, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, or other commercial vehicles is preferred.
